Hi everybody! I am new here!

My name is Meghan and I started 5:2 on Monday with my boyfriend.
Monday was our first light day and it went really well! Thursday will be our second light day and we feel ready. I am lucky to have a partner doing this plan with me! For the most part, both my BF and I have struggled with our weight since our High School days.
I am 44 years old, turning 45 in May. My guy will be 50 at the end of the summer. I live in the Northeastern, USA. I am a 5 feet 4 inch female. I weigh 212 and would like to get down to 175 for now. Probably more if this works! For now, don't want to bite off more than I can chew. Honestly would like to get to the 199 mark in time for my birthday. My BF is 6 feet tall and is about 280 or so. The heaviest he has ever been. :frown: He is already down a few pounds by doing 5:2 and paying closer attention to what he is eating.
I bought the book and it arrived a few days ago. Still getting through it. Have been eating pretty healthy for the most part for the past five years. No soda, no red meat. Poultry and fish, meatless like beans, etc. lots of healthy grains, fruits and veggies.
But I do enjoy my pasta, pizza, Mexican food, Chinese take out, as well as a once a month burger or steak!
Had a pretty decent health scare in 2015. In the past five years I lost some weight, put some back. Down from my all time heaviest of 240. Ugh. Need to find something that works for life. Hoping this is it!
Looking forward to learning more about this WOE and getting to know some of you.

Hi Meghan!!

Welcome to the forums - it's awesome you're doing this with a partner. It makes it so much easier.

I'm in roughly the same boat - northeastern USA, I'm 50, and currently 200lbs, which is down 71 lbs from my high. I think this is a great way to lose weight and to learn more about our bad habits and our bodies. I had no idea that I could allow myself to be hungry between meals without ill effects. Now I rarely snack, which is great!

Welcome @Meghan509 (and your partner) to this forum and the 5:2 approach to weight loss.

You sound like you feel good after your first light day and are ready and raring to go for your next one. Positive attitude helps so much!

There is lots to learn from this website (do read through the "LEARN" pages) and I do believe you will get most benefit and support if you participate actively in the forum discussions. Things are much quieter in the forum than they used to be, but there is still a lot of support and ideas to be gained from taking part.

So we look forward to hearing how you both go.

Best wishes and good luck! :clover:

Hi @Meghan509 - I'm in CT too!!! While I like winter and snow, I'm looking forward to warmer weather, so I can do more walking outside!

This is a great plan and you'll find there are many variations. I did 5:2 at first, but now I am doing eating windows. So, you can find what works best for you.

As Sassy1 said, it has been quieter here lately, but feel free to join in and start threads!

Good luck!

Hi guys!
Thanks for the SWEET welcome!
Pleased to report that week one went great! I am down four pounds since I started! BF is down even more! Today is week two day one. So techincally our third fast. Both BF and I are doing well and feeling good! I made a nice bean and veggie stew for our light dinners this week. Clocks in at a nice 221 calories per serving. I will look around and see if I can add that somewhere in recipes for you all.
We survived our weekend of activities... We had a big dinner and get together for a friend's birthday on Saturday night and brunch with friends on Sunday scheduled before we began this plan. Normally we wouldn't have two big things going on for the same weekend. Hopefully the scale is friendly tomorrow AM when I step on. If not, that's okay too. Onward and upward! One week at a time! :like:
I got the latest version of the Fast Diet book in the mail last Monday. Still making my way through it. I got the edition were the Dr. talks about exercise in the second half of the book. Curious to see what he says about that too. Because Lord knows I could use a kick in the butt in that department. Been paying for a gym membership that is currently not getting used, to be honest. Sigh...
Also picked up the Fast Diet Cookbook. I am one who loves to cook and have recipes on hand and I am visual. If I can use the cookbook for our meals and for inspiration, I feel I have a better chance of being successful. Still reading through it but tons of good, yummy stuff!
Like you said, I will dive in and post and look around and see what I can read.
I am excited to have found the 5:2 plan!
See you all around!
Meghan
