5:2 and then what meal?

Is there any academic stuff the nerdy gang can point me towards regarding fasting 5:2 and having zero calories till 24 hours is up and then, what is the best meal to have? carbs, proteins.. or does it not matter as long as it's 500 cals?

didn't know if you knew instantly if there was a paper out there. I know there isn't anything on 5:2 specifically but wondered if the new papers mentioned my question about what food to eat.

thanks gang.

No science to speak of.

The only study of intermittent fasting and diet was the one by Krista Varady that she mentions when talking to Dr M in the Horizon programme. She found similar weight loss in people doing ADF and eating a typical American diet on their feed days as those who ate "healthily" on their feed days. Apparently she is currently looking at spreading calories out on fast days over the day vs one meal. So far her studies have used a one meal approach.

The various experts that Dr M spoke to have theories about how long to fast, with some suggesting 24 hours is a good idea.

There is a lot of theorizing going on, but no solid data!

most of the clinical studies are under 30g of protein on the restricted calorie days, which is 120 cals so less than 20% of calories ? Varady tends to use 60g of carbs too.
