Wee bit dense for me but this is saying what I think it's saying, isn't it? Fasting reduces inflammation? :)

It produces an anti-inflammatory effect on the neuroimmune system, so it effects memory and behaviour. Nothing to do with the inflammation response from injury..if thats what you meant?

Surely if an anti-inflammatory reduction was recorded in the neuroimmune system, it must mean that other inflammatory markers would also show a reduction? I can't see why this would be confined to neuroimmune processes alone - perhaps this was the only area the researchers were studying? It's difficult to extrapolate since this is such a small abstract of the actual study but I would have thought it worth pursuing. I have heard that fasting is beneficial for arthritis, although I have to admit this has not so far been my experience on long term fasts.

The author of the Up Day Down Day Diet states that intermittent fasting is beneficial for arthritis and other inflammatory conditions and I'm hoping this is true.

It's an important issue we haven't heard much about, because inflammation is increasing understood as playing a key role in a raft of disorders http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inflammation

Interesting the study found a high fat diet negated the benefits. If we can't  eat much fat, carbs are a non no, and protein should be in moderation, then we will sure loss weight! posting.php?mode=reply&f=10&t=636#

Brad Pilon posits a link between depression and inflammation, and hence that intermittent fasting might combat depression - here.

Intermittent fasting during Ramadan reduces inflammation: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23244540

Although this involves fasting for relatively short periods, but every day, so not directly comparable with 5:2, this does show that increasing the periods between meals has anti-inflammatory actions.

Then could this be the way development of cancer is inhibited to some degree? There has been some very interesting work done in cardiology (where inflammation is thought to be a risk factor for heart disease) showing increased proliferation of cancer cells at the site of injury, in zebra fish.

I've posted in 'Negative Side Effects' that over the past couple of weeks my arthritis has worsened and spread. Don't know if this is related to IF but I am very concerned and wondering if I should stop fasting. Really disheartening.
