Calorie counting just got a whole lot easier!

If you're looking for an easier way to count calories, read on...

I recently got the chance to try out the SITU smart kitchen scales and I must say I love them!

The scales themselves are neat looking, no bigger than a regular kitchen scale and in a lovely white finish (which matches my kitchen beautifully). But they don't just look smart, they are smart! Through the power of Bluetooth they connect to your iPad (and soon Android tablets too) to make calorie counting an absolute doddle. Put food on the scale, use the intuitive and highly graphical app to select the food and tap to add it to your virtual plate. It's quick and fuss-free.

The SITU app keeps track of not only the calories but every bit of nutritional information for what you are are preparing. You can even set targets for each nutrient, such as a limit on your carb intake or goals for vitamins and minerals. With all the buzz in the press lately about sugar, SITU couldn't have come at a better time as they make it easy to monitor your intake.

The scales appeal to me not only as a 5:2er but also as someone who in the last 18 months has had to become more aware of certain vitamins. When I was on Warfarin these would have made life so much easier, being able to accurately track my Vitamin K intake - and now I can use them to keep track of my B vitamins to help lower my homocysteine levels. Brilliant!

So, if you're fed up of the fiddly apps for manually entering your calorie intake, if you need a new pair of kitchen scales or if you have reason to monitor other aspects of your diet these could be right up your street.

There's a more in depth review here:

I also found it really inspiring to read about the guy who created the scales and his weight loss journey:

You can view some videos of the scales & App here:

In a nutshell, I think the scales are a fantastic piece of kit! If I'd known about them when they were crowdfunding via Kickstarter I would have jumped at the chance to back them.

Better yet, the folks at SITU have kindly agreed to an exclusive 20% discount code for FastDay members* who want to buy the scales:

They are not at all complicated to use, it's all done via app which is really straightforward and intuitive. The scales aren't cheap, but not as expensive as I had expected. They're £79.99, so around £64 with the discount and as my husband pointed out to me recently, if it's something you'll use everyday it's worth the money (also how he talked me into a new, bigger TV, lol). Before I got these I had a set of Salter scales which looked nice bit didn't do anything beyond weighing and they cost £20. For everything these scales do I think it's reasonable, like investing in an activity tracker or body composition scales. I put SITU scales on my Christmas last year, although they didn't come out in time for that. If you've a special occasion coming up at all, I think these are a fab present!

What a fab idea! Just trying to talk hubby into it! As I am the one who does all the calorie counting for us he doesn't see the need!

Wow Moogie, thank you very much. I lost my weight guessing my calories and that worked well for me. Now in my eighth month of maintaining I'm in interested to monitor my vitamins and nutrients, from the recipes I cook from scratch.
Having spent my September birthday present in my head ........ I just need to purchase an ipad before 31st August xx

Just been looking at the vids etc
Like how you can set yr own daily recommendations for amount of cals/ protein etc,so you dont go over the limit by mistake
Also love how you can " save" a plate of food so next time you have that meal, all the info is already there

Someone like me who has spent years with a pen and notebook recording cals needs one of these!
Plus likeLiz said,i too am v interested in vits/ mins and how much i should be getting
@moogie does the cost of the scales include the price of the app,or do you pay separately for the app,or is it a free app? X

The App is free :) it only works worth the scales though, not on its own.
