Hi @CreakyPete, good to hear from you! Nice things are working well (again). Not involved in running currently (I do that in summer), but speedskating is my winter sports, so I am involved in that to keep fit (and slim)

Hi Pete & fellow runners. Glad to here you have the second hip in place and doing well. I'm sure you will break through 24:00 in the spring. I'm much the same weight wise as well but still doing 1 fast a week now which I find valuable but a little more difficult to accomplish from a discipline standpoint. Doing 5:2 was easier because the next fast was never far into the future. As for running I'm also off-season. I do occasional indoor runs and lot's of walking along with working out at the local gym. For the 2016-2017 seasons my emphasis shifted to more frequent but shorter runs of 5k, 10k, 15k with occasional half marathons. I'm finding by doing that my recovery's are fast and have fewer injuries. Looking forward to March-April to get back into training ! Hope everyone will have an enjoyable holiday season.
Go 2018 !

I've finally found the US equivalent of Park Run - or at least the NYC version: NYRR hosts free, weekly 5k runs at various parks around the city. It's called Open Run. There is one is my local park every Saturday at 9am. It's awesome for motivation.

I went through a phase of not wanting to go out and run (this is really weird for me - I usually love running, and don't have much of a problem staying motivated). I was so happy to find Open Run because it means I get at least one run in per week. It was also fun watching my times get better each week I as gradually increased my fitness again, though I seem to be plateauing finally.

Hi MaryAnn, great to see the US catching up with the UK, shame it isn't a proper parkrun as the results would be available for us all to see - and cheer on your successes! Good to see you back in harness.
Mrs Pete and I are still going strong but she has overtaken my efforts in age-percentage. I get to do number 310 on Saturday, she is a bit behind on that score but nearly at 300. We both managed a real 5 mile race a couple of weeks ago, despite the intense heat the UK has been bathed in...

I live in Geneva, and when I manage to get there, I do parkrun in a lovely French town just over the border called Divonne les Bains (one of only seven in France!). Its beautiful - running round a lake with mountains as the backdrop! When I lived in the UK I did the Cambridge one, which was also fab! Parkrun is great, although I don't manage every week. However, when I do, my hubby and daughter come to and go to the playground while I run and then we all go for pain au choc/croissants in a local cafe. It's a tough life...

Fasting today and did a lunchtime run for the first time on a fast day (and having not broken my fast yet) and was actually a bit faster than usual! Pretty chuffed with that! Has anyone else experienced that?

Yes. And as you get accustomed to fasting your energy levels will become very consistent so endurance runs become much easier. Carb-loading unnecessary.

It's been a while since I've visited here. Seems to be a bit of a ghost town, oh well I'll quit blathering. I had a bad 2018 with regards to running, I turned up with some more than usual right knee pain in May. Yada Yada It turned out to be a torn Medial Meniscus but fortunately no arthritis involvement. I thought I was done for but after a cortisone inj, a round of PT and many months of walking Im recovered as of July 2019. I slowly have built my mileage back and very thankful to be able to participate . I hope all others are are doing well. How's it going ?

Hi Brougham - I too have not looked in for ages but your entry generated an email to prompt me, so thanks for that!
2018/19 has had its ups and downs for me too, last December I started limping on my right leg with a thigh pain that seemed associated with the hip replacement I had 18 months previously. It took 2 months of rest and gentle cycling before I could run again and it took a while to get up to 5k pace, but at the same time I started getting out in the hills more with the view to attempting (again) the Wales 3000s challenge of 15 peaks in a day. One attempt in May made me think it was beyond me now but we did a lot of recce and route choice work that week and at the same time the last lingering twinges from my leg went away, probably from all the downhill walking on technical ground. We returned a month later, with maximum daylight but no visibility (clouds at 2500 feet all day), and got around by the skin of our teeth - out for nearly 21 hours, 16 hours for the 15 peaks themselves. 30 years ago it took me 8 1/2 hours but I did have support at the road crossings...
Since then I have been trying to improve my parkrun 5k times - I have just done number 359 in 24:50 and want to see this another 30 seconds lower by Xmas. Also did a 10 mile race in September, 10 minutes slower than 10 years ago, and I am trying to add mileage to my training runs to build a bit more endurance.
I no longer do 5:2 but my weight is stable between 135 -138 lbs and has been for 5 years or so. I do go for long periods without eating, some days, so I suppose I have a variable eating window which allows for exercise planning around mealtimes.
Great to hear from you, hope some of the others look in with their updates.
Cheers,
Pete - no longer so creaky!

CreakyPete! brougham!

It's been ages since I've been here, too. Weight loss maintenance hasn't gone well lately, but running is going ok! I continue to do the Open Run almost every week.

A friend of mine got me involved in regular NYRR races, too, and next November, I'm supposed to run my first marathon! Given that I mostly do 5Ks now, I really need to start proper training... SOON!

Anyway... great to see everyone. Here's hoping everyone has an injury-free running year!

Hi All,

Just looked in to see if there is anybody left on here that I know, having realised that it has been 10 years since I joined this forum. Still running, now at 456 parkruns and just returning to half-marathons - where I have been quick enough to take V70 prizes just before Xmas. Now working on getting 'hill fit' for a major challenge in the Lake District this summer, delayed by the Covid business. Love to hear from anybody who remembers me - I don't do 5:2 any more and have been 133lbs for ages - but I can go for long periods without food when necessary, without keeling over!

Cheers,

Pete
