Ouch Jed!

I'm working from home today, so have set up a standing desk, and will keep moving all day, no chair till I sit down for dinner tonight.

My waist is down 3cm this week - coincidence I'm sure, but encouraging

Good day yesterday of putting this into practice. Stood all morning doing baking (and didn't try anything I made!) Then umpteen errands run in town, and I live somewhere very hilly, so that was good exercise. Didn't sit down till 8.00pm, so over 12 hours of more or less constant standing/walking.

Off now to put the washing away, and tidy up up and down stairs for half an hour or so.

Bit of heel challenge today - going to a wedding, so want to wear killer ones, but I'm walking there, so worried that I could wreck my calves for a few days

Thank you Ken! I've been more mindful about sitting and with just standing more frequently, the weight has started back down. I had forgotten that when I lost 85lbs before it was because I rarely wasn't doing something in a standing position. :like:

Kencc - you are on to something there! Have found fasting a struggle lately with more fails due to feeling very lethargic, cold and brain foggy, like my body wants to have a day off when I fast- have experimented with upping calories or more meals, but not found the right balance yet. Have been doing more NEAT the last week or so, and I'm so hungry! The positive note is I feel much better for being more active - thanks Ken for sharing about it :)

Inspirational thread this. Huge thanks to those who've done the research and posted info and links.

I'm the Queen of Couch Potatoes. Most of my paid work is done slumped in front of a computer. Pattern of housework is to whizz around like demented snitch (Harry Potter, anyone?) and get it all done in order to maximise blobbing time.

I'm reviewing my situation, like Fagin in the musical!

Ken you are so right about subconciously reducing NEAT after a small amount of weight-loss! Look at my progress tracker and you'll see where I lost 10 lbs then gradually re-gained 3.5-4 lbs. There were two things happening when I went into reversal 1. I had finished cleaning my Mom's house for a family visit and 2. my thyroid medication was altered slightly making me feel lethargic and lazy. I read your post on NEAT and realized that I had stopped moving about and was always sitting. So I immediatly jumped up and did something and everytime I realized I was sitting again I would get up and do something else. Result: the weight stopped creeping up and actually started to slide down a bit down, medication back to normal and as of last Friday, finally feel like my oldself again and even realized I was smiling as I made the morning pot of coffee! :) NEAT is giving me back the motivation to get my house back in order, just a little at a time but easy to see a small task that needs doing and just get up and do it and job done in a few minutes. Little things can make a HUGE difference. :)

Oh - this is so much easier with the sun shining  .

I'm typing this while eating lunch standing in the kitchen. I've been out for several errands this morning, off out shopping later, and have been hanging washing it - all a treat not a chore to feel the sun on my arms.

I'm struck by how smoothly I've switched from being a sitter to a stander (and more of a mover). I tuck my chair under the table after my morning tea, then that's it, till I sit on the sofa at night, or at the table for an evening meal.

Hope everyone is enjoying moving today

Ken,

I just wanted to thank you for starting this thread. It's inspired me to buy a stepper, which I keep by the coffee table. In the evenings, I sit on the sofa working on a laptop table and there I would stay for extended periods, to the point where I was so stiff I almost couldn't stand up properly when I wanted to. I now get up and do a couple of minutes on the stepper every 15 minutes or so, which can only be a good thing.

Oh no! Does that mean I'll have to exchange my sea kayak for a stand up paddleboard? LOL

Thanks Ken for all of this. I have only just got round to reading the thread and will have a look at the links when I have more time.

I suffer from periods of TATT (tired all the time) and I know that being active helps but sometimes I just can't be bothered. But now I will be bothered - when I finish writting this I'm going to get my hula hoop out of the bedroom and put it in the lounge. I can't hula hoop but I will learn now while watching TV.

My fitbit tells me that on the days I work I easily do my 10,000 steps, sometimes nearer 16,000. I am fortunate enough to be able to walk to work, home for lunch, back to work and then back home at tea time. The problem comes when I'm not working like today - 3:20pm, 3229 steps and my housework is nearly done!

I know I can improve my activity levels but how on earth do I improve my motivational levels. :frown:

BTW, I'll stick to dinghy sailing - I do have to stand up when I have to tack, ie. turn round.

Thanks Ken, you hit the nail on the head.....I don't want to conciously exercise but would like to be more active on home days without thinking about it. I did have a go with hula hoop and that involved a lot of bending down to pick the blinking thing up.

Kencc says

"But men aren't supposed to be able to multi task anyway"..........................

Ken dear,

I'll let you into a little secret, women can't multi task either. It is all a myth. When did you last see a woman doing the ironing whilst playing tennis, or, gardening whilst going round the supermarket, or, painting her toenails whilst making love.....ahem......oh......O.K. perhaps we can multi task after all!

Thank you for mentioning this book, kencc.
I have just downloaded it to read whilst I cycle in the morning...
