Why do the scales show an increase when I've been so good?

I have been on 5:2 for 18 months after watching Michael Mosley's TV doc. Essentially I lost one stone (13st 2 to 12st 0) over 9 months and then last Summer I stopped loosing further weight in spite of sticking to my former eating habits while reducing between June to October of 2014. Since last October the weight is now creeping upward relentlessly and I am back to 12 st 7 . I have been eating 'normally' i.e. biscuits with my coffee, cake and scones with my tea, trifle with my dinner. The point is, I ate like this whilst I was reducing....but now it doesn't seem to work. On fast days I am always below 600 Kcals and usually just 500. Has my body adjusted its Kcal requirement downwards ? If so, this is a disaster as I am back where I started and have to eat less than before just to maintain. Dear oh dear !

Hi @hovebiker

When we lose weight our bodies require less calories that's true but they also play sneaky tricks to make us regain weight. This article explains more https://www.fastday.com/fasting/what-ha ... se-weight/

It could be that while you think your eating habits haven’t changed, in fact your calorie intake has crept up.

Other changes can also cause weight gain despite your fasting. Hormone changes, increased stress, reducing activities due to winter months, changes in medications for example.

Can you think of any such changes in your life?

Meanwhile, try counting your calories on a couple of non-fast days to see what you are generally eating. Did you ever do that when you were losing? If so you can compare then and now?

I am very grateful to you for taking the trouble to reply to my post. In fact when I was loosing I did roughly work out my Kcal intake on non-fasting days and I haven't been doing that at all for the period I have been gaining. Yesterday I made a careful note of my food intake and will carefully stay well under my TDEE over the next few weeks.....and perhaps beyond. I will let you know how I get on !
