5 and 2 and weight watchers simple start togeather

Hi all

wondered if it would be ok to run 2 diets togeather ?
having problems shifting weight now........dunno if its because i`m not eating anything within 24 hrs on my fast days ...wonder if mny people go the whole 24 hrs without any cals? has it worked for you ...or made things worse
i was thinking of doing the simple start on my non fast days but not sure if it will effect my 5 and 2 or vicer versa....

any advise would be great.

Hello Neil,
Just have a little look around the forum before embarking on adding another method,
I suspect that if you start WW, you will not get the calorie deficit you need for fasting to work.

There's so much information out there, you can start with these.

Hi @robinson I'm in a similar position as you but no way would I consider doing 2 different diets calorie and point counting 7 days per week, and as for not eating on your fastday many members have zero cal liquid fasts so that is allowed and practised by many, going back to basics as of week one being very careful on your normal days because if you're no cals on f/day then it must be your other days that are your problem.
Reducing your carb intake sometimes kickstarts your weightloss again because going very low carbs forces our bodies to go into fat burning.

I regulary fast for 36 hours without food. There are many others on here that do the same. So it won't be the 24 hours that's nobbling you. No food from evening day one till lunch day 3.
I would suggest that you use a food tracker on your non-fast days for a couple of weeks to make sure you are actually eating at or below your TDEE. Its so very easy to go over. I've only been back in the saddle for a couple of weeks and already know I need to switch to skimmed milk in my teas again as its making up a substantial part of my calories.

Generally the reason why this way of eating is so successful is that you aren't on a diet 7 days a week. Fasting plus a restrictive diet on the other days for me would be hell. I would probably last about 2 weeks before caving in and probably putting the weight back on. But 2 days fasting, plus 5 days eating 'mindfully' does work. These days, when I'm having a bad feed day, I will eat rubbish, like biscuits, but now I only eat 2 or three, not the whole pack, which I was very guilty of for a long, long time.

This question has come up just recently, hasn't it? It seems that a lot of us are stalled in our weight loss and we are desperate to try something else. What we know is that DIETS DON'T WORK. They don't work because if you can't diet for ever and as soon as the diet stops, the weight goes back on. With 5:2, it's not a diet. It's a life style. It won't stop. I will be doing it as long as on earth I live. It may take a long time to lose the weight I want to lose, but it doesn't matter.@Robinson, you don't say what your BMI is, how much weight you have lost so far, so it's hard to know the story. How long have you been doing 5:2? Just hang in here, and trust and let your body take the time it needs.

I agree with others that, while there are no rules about not combining fasting with WW, it seems too restrictive to be sustainable and anything that is not sustainable just ends up with you gaining weight not losing it in the long term!

I will carry on as usual and see what happens.......

my weight loss is around 1.5 stonne from jan 2014 and my bmi is around 26,my waist has gone from 43 inches to 37/8,i`d love to get to around 32inches but now im the big 50 now to sure if i ever will...but you never know

Im not a big bloke at all but my weight is around my stomouch and that really is what im looking to shift...infact you could say i could do with putting weight on all round except my belly........i also goto the jym maybe 3 times a week and burn around 800 cals so i`m doing the right thing,but i dont seem to be doin much these days...
