Yes, I'm feeling much healthier, major reduction in my Chronic Fatigue symptoms.

An interim report ... over the past month I've done my dairy challenge, and gluten challenge, and failed both (so I'm off them long term). During the challenges my weight went up again rapidly ... and now that I'm off dairy and gluten again, my weight is dropping just as quickly back to where it was before the challenges. And hopefully this downward trend will continue — still have a good 10-15 kg to go to my goal ... which I'm hoping will now be more achievable, with my food intolerances dealt with.

Thanks all :) It's so encouraging to see the numbers finally starting to drop 'normally' rather than this perpetual resistance to any weight loss, despite 5:2-ing etc.

Yes, good up date. Thankyou. It must be a relief to have confirmed what you believed. Now you will be reaching your goal in next to no time. Well done.

Wow this is absolutely fascinating!!
Can I ask, have you been calorie counting at the same time or is the weight losses/gain purely down to what you're eating not how much you're eating?
I'm intrigued because I have been on 5:2 since January 2013. I lost 24lbs in the first six months and nothing since, just yo-yoing the whole time, relieved at not gaining much, frustrated at not losing much.

Sorry, didn't see your message until just now, JennyH10! No, I can't stand calorie counting any more. I did it for 11 months (before discovering 5:2) and it nearly drove me insane LOL.

Yeah, it's frustrating when everything stalls, isn't it? What I found after all my elimination diets is that dairy / soy / gluten etc made no difference to me. After a few weeks of loss, I started to gain weight again. SIGH. The failsafe diet (salicylates, amines etc) does help me though, so I'm on that long-term now. But I don't think failsafe is making much of a difference to my weight (I've gained several kilos while on it, as it's not exactly low cal).

At the start of April I've started back on 5:2, and my doctor halved my dose of mirtazapine (taken for insomnia). I've gone from 30 mg to 15 mg. I don't know why I didn't really pick this up as a problem med before, as it has known appetite-increasing and carb-craving effects. I've been on it for a decade, so I can't recall what my appetite was like OFF it.

Anyway — 20 days in, and 5:2 is actually starting to work for me, properly! Finally — after 2 years ... !

I'm averaging 0.5 kg loss / week, so far, touch wood and all that. I'm definitely less hungry on non-fasting days. And my weight is not leaping up as high between fast days, as it used to. I'm doing liquid fasts on my fast days — I get too hungry once I start eating, and the things I can eat on failsafe are very restricted, and generally not very low cal. So I figured I may as well just stay off all food on my fast days, and that's working well.

Early days yet, but I'm hoping this trend continues!
