Your special Easter food treats and special Easter baking

Easter is just around the corner

Would love to know your special Easter cooking specialities.. be it savoury or sweet.

I personally dont have one. Years ago, in a previous life of mine, i baked Hot cross buns from scratch.

I avoid buns now.. because of my new healthful lifestyle. At the bakery today they were staring at me in the face.. those beautifully, golden shiny buns, the classic style with sultanas (not chocolate). And this bakery knows how to prepare good treats.

Anyway 2 or 3 years ago i would easily purchase 1/2 dozen at about 9am .. consume half on way back home in car while driving (5 minute drive) and proceed to consume balance by midday.

Oh how those days are gone.

Just don't buy them. Simple

To be honest, I don't crave them either.

Loving this W.O.L. its for good you know.

I love the buns but I don't buy them either. They are sure to be served at various places I go in which case I'll just have one as I don't care to be a pig in public. Much better that way.

We get hot cross buns all the year round now. My husband often buys them. I sometimes have a half with a cup of tea on a normal day.
I have made Simnel cake a couple of times - very nice but full of naughtiness!

We have many traditional Easter foods in our family. As they are all associated with breaking the Lenten fast, most are carb, fat & sugar heavy, so I will have to be careful - haven't told anyone in my family about 5:2 yet, they wouldn't be supportive, even though it works (& though they all fast during Lent!). Anyhow, the Italian side makes shadone, a pepperoni/cheese & more cheese & egg turnover, ricotta pie - ricotta cheese, sugar, eggs, chocolate, & Easter braids, white flour, sugar & eggs - with frosting. Is it any wonder my family has diabetes & weight problems? Fortunately, we really do only prepare them once a year @ Eastertime. Although, I don't know if making them more often would prevent eating too much of them @ Easter or not...

I've always been very strict about only eating HC buns on Good Friday, so I'll stick to that again this year. And we'll make a Simnel cake, but to feed visitors, so I'll only have a slice.

But most of all I'm looking forward to salt marsh lamb on Easter Sunday. We'll probably also have one of our gunea fowl over the weekend.

People don't let me cook "real food," but I do love to bake. My new Easter tradition? A modified version of this tiramisu cake (without alcohol):

So good.

I make biscuits for the staff at my youngest son's school. He goes to a special school so there are lots of people that help him. I am going to make lavender shortbread this year.

Easter is so close.. i realised its only 2 more weekends to go. I wont have a kitchen (renovating) so no cooking for me. I've warned all my takeout outlets to have meals ready for me.

Any more ideas to share about your Easter food preparations?

my hubby has hot cross buns quite often for his packed lunch and I sometimes fantasise over them when I'm buttering and wrapping them up but it was a lot easier this week as the Tesco ones we had were really dry!

We don't have much that's any different at Easter although we usually have some chocolate of some description - this year we have a leftover box of Thorntons from Xmas - I will have them for the Easter weekend then any left will go in the bin I've decided - so there! :victory:

Love Easter! Usually a feast day with lamb (not for me) and celebratory food. Simnel cake a definite- it's got MARZIPAN! :D :D :D I do individual ones which are really lovely make some without the golden paste of wonder as diving daughter doesn;t like it. Where did I get her from?
Not too fussed about Easter eggs but usually get one for Beloved and daughters. Must get them ordered for delivery ...

On my feet all day getting bits and pieces for renovations. Having changed colours and materials 5 times in 2 years in the planning I finally put down the deposit. Anyhow I felt like I needed a treat so bought my first 1/2 dozen hot cross buns. From Aldi but very good.

As I write this post I am enjoying one with loads of unsalted butter. Yum. Hmm not sure if i can hold off the other 5 before the end of the evening.

Tomorrow is fasting/repair day so not a worry.

Oh wow! That's our Easter menu sorted. Hits all the buttons/ticks all the boxes etc.
I'll do the pie with spinach cos no chard here and probably do the film cos that's really easy to get , maybe substitute some of the veg in the lamb to make it Beloved friendly, and what's not to love about the marzipan (and the biscuits around it! ;) )
Sunday's a working day so the lamb will cook gently all day while I'm out.
Thanks so much for posting this @Juliana.Rivers
We can celebrate, I can cook and it'll fit in with everything :D :D :D :D
