Benefits of green tea?

So in having a natter with my mate, she says that green tea is a great way to help loose weight and fat around the stomach area, but seeing as there is so much contradictory info on the rest the old interweb, thought I'd ask you guys and gals as you might all be able to help answer this question better!

So the question in 3 parts is: Is Green tea as good as they say, are the benefits as good as are claimed, and, would you recommend it?

I've been drinking green tea for over 20 years now, because I prefer it to black. Haven't had sugar in tea and coffee for over 40, and I gave up milk in tea years ago. But much as I love green tea it did not stop me ballooning up to 157 pounds at my worst 5 years ago. However the usual advice applies - see if it works for you!

It is supposed to be good for your metabolism. It also is supposed to have a lot of health benefits. So, I figure it certainly can't hurt to drink it and see what happens! I'm shooting for 1 cup a day. I think you are supposed to have 3 cups a day for it to really help, but I just can't get all of that in!

I looked at the evidence when someone else asked about green tea and I agree with the article gym-sparkle-90 has linked to.

The effects on metabolism are very small and are really down to the caffeine content and so while you may lose a few grams more than if you don't drink green tea, any other caffeinated drink would probably be equally (in)effective!

I was going to do it and then got bogged down with getting the pics to be 100 x 100 pixels so put it aside for a bit! Mind you I think the current under-exposed selfie does make my face look particularly slim in contrast with the shiny moon face of the before photo!

@gym-sparkle-90 thanks for the link, had a read and it's very interesting, may stick to water and tea if the benefits are very minimal! Gonna have a look at some of the other articles it has linked at the bottom!

@nursebean £25 for green tea?! To heck with that, will stick to my PG Tips! lol,
