Wow, Tracie, I am a big croque monsieur fan (also croque madame - I thought that was made with turkey but I suppose I am wrong) - anyway this recipe sounds lovely. Can you make the pancakes without the psyllium husk or is it really necessary?? I don't want to invest in lots of different ingredients if its not that important. Either way, I am going to give it a whirl !!!

I haven't tried without the psyllium husk, but I don't think you should worry about psylium. it's a very safe ingredient, very common. It's the active ingredient in things like metamucil. It's seriously just plant fiber. it bulks up the pancakes and gives them a great texture. It's been around a long, long time and is safe and natural.

If you really don't want to get the psylium husk powder, I would add something to add fiber -- maybe almond flour, or even a tablespoon or two of ground up oats (which adds carbs, of course).

I've never seen a croque made with turkey, but then I've only seen them in France and they don't eat deli style turkey often in France. They're big into ham. Croque Monsieur in France is ham and cheese, madame adds an egg and croque provencale adds tomato.

This will longish! Hi all, I haven't checked in on the Fastday Forum in like forever. Wolfie from Sweden if anyone remember me.

After I did 5:2 and lost 17kg, I had the most terrible year when I lost not only my two Rhodesian Ridgeback broads but my BFF too. Lost all will/power to fast and gained it all again. An ordinary visit to my GIP showed slightly elevated blood sugar level and that needed to be taken care. I thought going back on 5:2 but a friend suggested LCHF instead. So just before Christmas 2016 I started and a week later The DH joined. And here is the unfair part, while I lost 8kg in four weeks and then got stuck, he lost between 15-20 kg and now look like a scare crow :shock:

Getting stuck on these 8 kg even though I did 16:8 on LCHF was disheartened (right word?) and during the just finished 4 week vacation I have splurged a bit, but not on potatoes, rice or pasta. Some bread though and some wine, a bit of fruits and some ready made deserts. Interesting though, from this fancy way I only gained 0.5kg.

But as of today I will combine all the three: 5:2 on LCHF Monday and Wednesday and LCHF 16:8 the rest of the days. Hopefully my "sinful" weeks with help to kick-start some more loss of weight, otherwise I'm not sure what to do. Goin back on potatoes etc is a no-no. I do have two issues against me: hypothyroid and meds that affects the weight negatively.

On the positive side as of today I will never have to work a single day if I don't want to - 2 months vacation and then early retirement :grin:

Welcome back wolfie!!!!

Well congratulations on the early retirement - that's wonderful!! I'm sorry last year was so hard for you and I certainly understand how that kind of stress can make one fall off the wagon. I think you have an excellent plan for getting back on track again though.

how was your first fast day in a while?

First day was ok, drank a looooot o water. Second today but that is a bit harder, kind of gastroenteritis sensation. But I know from experience that it's only to persevere ;)

Hi guys,remember Candy? Sorry i havent been here for a while..not logged in anyway,but have been back occasionally to read posts.
am resurrecting this post coz i need help if poss from the clever folk here! Ive lost a ton of weight on 50 g carbs a day over the last year or so..but unfortunately then learnt i have lymphoedema and lipodaema ..which means no matter how much ive eaten low carb and fasted, and lost inches most places,my knees and ankles stay disappointingly and annoyingly chunky! Seems a bit unfair after all the hard work,but my lymph glands dont work properly.
However some studies apparently show if you go down to 20 g carb per day,you just might see some gratifying reductions in the tree trunks! Not quite sure how you go down to 20 g a day ..seems pretty drastic
.has anyone done it and if so,what did you eat. @carorees or anybody else...
do you have any thoughts a) on if v low carbs help lymphies and/ or
B) whats the best way to tackle only 20 g carbs per day..
i can only think of a daily fast til dinner then have 20 g carb meal..i know some folk do a 22:2 day every day..not sure i could cope tho! :confused: love to all x

Regarding B ...

Guessing that you're fighting an inflammatory response.

To get as low as 20 g per day would likely require weighing your food and entering the ingredients into a food tracker that converts that information into the amount of fat, carbohydrates and protein contained in that food. What this process reveals are sources of hidden carbs such as those found in something as non-carby as tomato sauce, for example. It's very easy for these hidden carb sources to add up to far beyond 20 grams.

Realize too that protein, beyond your body's immediate needs, is quickly converted into glucose. Again a suitable food tracker reveals this.

Another possible step would be to consider using a glucose meter to test your body's reaction to various foods. That way you'll know to either avoid them or to cut down the serving size to what you body will tolerate.

Both of these methods and the full rationale behind them are well detailed in the book listed in the recent gallbladder thread. Don't let the title of the book put you off. There's a wealth of well-written, easily understood information in that book that applies to everyone wanting to lose weight (for better health, quality of life...), that also have a willingness to apply proven steps that can get you there. That you're researching and reading medical studies(!!) is absolute proof that you are one of those people.

Realize that none of the tedium implied in these additional steps is permanent. Once you've learned what your body actually needs and make changes to meet those needs, you will have identified a far better way to live - fully customized for you.

I'm no expert, because I don't do low carb. I have reduced my carbs to under 100g most days of the week. However, in the research I have done, it seems that most people who do Keto, do eat under 20g of carbs. I think part of it is getting a lot of fiber in. Here in the U.S. the carbs are listed without considering the fiber, so we can then subtract the fiber we eat to get the net carbs. I'm sure you're familiar with https://www.dietdoctor.com/. They have a lot of information/meal plans/recipes etc. for low carb!

After the holidays, I'm considering trying a really low carb week, just to see how I do on it. I'm not doing so well with my under 100g. I mean, I'm able to stick with it well during the week and actually feel like I'm eating really healthy. But I go overboard on the weekend and therefore (I think that's why), I'm not losing much weight. I'm going to try to do better on weekends and see if that helps!

My second favourite this one. Low carb has kept me in a good weight range but the menopause hit me like a jumbo jet and I’m now heavier than I want to be so M, W and F fast days for me until I get it back to my lowest weight. I prefer low carb as when I eat healthy fats I feel fuller for longer. :wink:
