Well done young Bert, ( aka @Silverdarling ) I have also got 2 years of maintenance under my belt and believe me it is a lot more comfortable than the fat that used to lurk there

Two years for me today. Like Brougham, something clicked in me when I watched the Horizon show, starting my first diet ever the very next day. Within the next few days I moved through 5:2 to ADF losing 44 pounds (20 kg) in the first 5 months; hitting a fleeting one-day minimum of 49 a few months later. I've maintained a 25 (or so) BMI for the last 19 months.

Sleep is great, energies are up, aches and pains and the usual complaints associated with getting older are virtually non-existent. No prescriptions or OTC medicines of any kind either. And my extracurricular because-I-still-can race times continue to improve! (Actually, nothing at all hurts if I were to subtract semi-frequent, over-exertive cross trainings. So be it. I'll rest when I'm dead.)

Beyond the weight scale readings and anecdotal, N=1 assessments, my blood test results are far better now than at any time in 11 of the last 20 years for which I have records. Some of those numbers were quite scary. Currently at or near the ideal values for all the categories and ratios that matter.

Eating differently - the third and most critical leg of the 5:2 tripod - evolved with a deliberate and dramatic reduction in carbohydrates counter-balanced with an increased reliance on fats. Recipe hunting/replacement continues to be an enjoyable (and recommended) project.

It's been a very long time since I had an "official" 600 calorie fast day. Mostly I remain mindful by following a variation of the Varady suggestion of mid-range calorie days, generally skipping either breakfast or lunch (sometimes both).

Thank you one and all for being an encouraging, informative and supportive part of this WOL.

@ADFnFUEL a very happy 2nd fastiversary to you. :victory: :victory:
There is certainly a click moment that leads us to
A first ever 52 moment that leads us to
An eating differently moment that leads us to
A fabulous losing moment that leads us to
Great health moments and happiness that leads us to
A maintaining moment - phew, nearly there
Thanks to all the great folk living this WOL, for finding and leading the way, for getting back on that horse and giving slack when we need it!
Wishing you health and happiness ahead in year 3.
Bonne apetite

Well I haven't contributed anything for about a year, but have been lurking round corners and occasionally peeking under tent flaps

So today is my 2 year Fastiversary. I went into maintenance last June at about 65.5kg and currently weigh 67.8kg. I had set 67kg as my top limit so I have strayed a bit over. But in my defense it's been a really bad start to the year with my partner having a couple of serious health scares that have had my stress levels through the roof.

So I'm back into 5:2 in a big way now and hope a couple of months will see me knock of the extra couple of kgs. Luckily I've always been one of those annoying people that have found basic 5:2 fasting easy and successful so now that my mojo is back I'm optimistic. I can't imagine any other diet where I wouldn't have given up and piled a couple of stone back on by now, so to me 2kg is :victory:
So here's to everyone, may you be a newbie, a struggler or a maintainer. It can and does work :victory:

Thanks P-JK and barbarita. I wonder if we'll still be hanging out in this tent in 10 or 20 years. I think I'm up for it

Congratulations, @Alf, you are clearly finding maintaining a breeze! I bless the day that I discovered this WOL and owe a huge debt to all the members of this forum who do such a brilliant job by providing friendship, encouragement and the occasional wet fish!

Great to have you active on the forum again @Alf. Remind us of your journey and keep us up to date re those pesky kilos in the maintenance tent, as suggested.

Good luck and best wishes! :clover:

2 years today, since I hit target weight. 5:2 started 28/1/13, 14kg less 28/8/13. A TOTALLY CLASSIC 2lb/week.

And here I am, 2 years to the day not 100gm less, not 100gm more. Ok so I've popped over occasionally (usually after some socialising!) but a couple of 16:8's and it's all sorted!!

So what are my secrets?

- this forum. I may no longer still be active but I keep a watchful eye, and in the 5:2 days you were invaluable
- zero noodles, quite frankly I'm not sure I would be able to manage without them!
- my 5 y.o. babe (horse) who appreciates my slight weight
- my fabulous husband who has never failed to support me (& cook fabulous low-cal meals)
- daily weighing, it doesn't work for everyone but I need to get on top of a 500g gain IMMEDIATELY, there's a very sliiperly slope that I know well & that I don't wish to slide down again

It CAN be done. That surplus weight CAN be shed. And you CAN keep it off. A lot of determination, a lot of support & probably some luck!!!

An exemplary 5:2 "career", @annied, a great advert for the method and all credit to you for keeping the willpower going. Enjoy your Fastiversary, in moderation of course
