Fasting too much?

Hi @Daydreamer21 - given that you're not actually ill, no appetite (rather than being determined *not* to eat because one feels fat) sounds more physiological than psychological to me (IMVHO).

On repair (fast) days I wouldn't worry about it - there's loads of folks doing zero calorie liquid fasts with no harm done. On feed days you *do* need to try to eat to your TDEE, if possible.

Are you low carbing? Ketosis often means one doesn't feel hungry (it's actually a free semi-reliable way of telling whether one is *in* ketosis). This is good - you're fat burning. Yay! But, as you're finding, one sometimes has to make oneself eat! Maybe looking at food porn and cooking extra-special stuff would help you? Failing that, when you do eat make sure that the foods are *really* high density calories, e.g. cheese, nuts and the likes, lots of olive oil... All the best, FatDog.

Well, I survived the garden centre visit.....& drank tea whilst watching my friends slather butter on scones! Didn't have anything to eat until about 2.45pm, when it was the usual half a carton of Lemon Rasam soup - num num.

Just about to go to bed & draw a line under my first ever 4:3 week. Will have to try hard not to blow things over the weekend......especially since I have signed up to the SMART Easter Challenge & set myself a tough goal of 16lbs in 10 weeks. All I have to do now is work out how to get the details onto my profile!

Have a good weekend all....

Hi all. This is my first post. Right time to lose the baby weight and thus tent looks good. I want to do 4.3 but I can't get into the zone. I'm going to be 35 in 9 week's and I want to wear a skimpy dress and feel sexy again. So with the 4.3 word it be possible to lose. About 2 pounds a week? That still wouldn't get me to my goal weight but I need to get it started. I need a positive outlook please help me get nit he zone.

Hi Gemma! Welcome to the forum.

4:3 is quite hard - honestly, I would suggest you try a few weeks of 5:2 first, and see how you do with that. Once you're feeling good, you can try 4:3.

4:3 doesn't tend to make people lose much more weight than 5:2 does, but it is significantly harder to stick with. And in the end, the diet that works is the one you can stick with and not feel miserable!

2 pounds a week is unlikely. This post http://www.fastday.com/announces/topic1925.html talks about how most people lose about 1 pound a week on 5:2, and of the people who were doing 4:3, most were losing about 1.2 pounds a week.

I may be unusual, but I find 4:3 a lot easier than 5:2....doing 3 days of modified fasting curbs my naughty streak!

Hey @Auriga My thoughts exactly

However in light of my recent struggle (8 weeks) sorry but I'm moving out of this tent but only temporarily because I'm concentrating on just 5:2 for a few weeks to get everything under control again as soon as I have " I'll be back" .

Hmmm...I wonder...I started this WOE this week, and have my first 2 fasting days done. I joined this tent because I realized that on weekends, I am fasting most of the day anyway, only eating dinner just about every Sat & Sun. I feel like it would be quite natural for me to go into the 4:3. I must admit that fast day #2 (yesterday) was quite hard, but I hung in there thanks to the encouragement on this board. Fast day #3 for the week will be tomorrow.

I also wonder if my doing low carbs on both types of days will help me lose faster. I have a LOT to lose (80 lbs at least) and I am hoping that I will lose big on the front end of this adventure! We shall see. My last known weight (back in mid-December) was around 242 and that is what I plugged in here for the stats; today's weight was 230.6, so I must have been doing something right for end of December till now. I wish now I had weighed myself after all when I started this WOE, but oh well.

Good luck to us all!

 Hi @flamanette You won't know what you can do until you try it some won't go there but I've never had any problems in fact my first fastday went so well I did the next day plus another later in the week thus doing back2back fasts and 4:3 as you are aware I've also got loads to lose and I believe 4:3 has helped me but for you if you do a sort of semifast anytime over the weekend that will also help with both the weightloss and an extra longer fasting time because when I'm out for a meal I do my 4:3 plus 1day where I fast all day then eat + drink whatever I want on my night out so on your weekends you could do similar half/semi fast plus your 5:2 then see how you get on, as I said you won't know what you're capable of until you've played around with other options.

Hi there! I'm popping in to say hello to all 4:3ers.

I'm doing 4:3 this week for the third time during the past year. I want to see whether it has any better effect on the weight loss and whether I can do it.

My last attempts were not successful at all. I couldn't stop eating on a fast day #2 and #3 for the week each time. I was feeling too deprived of food.

This time I have already sabotaged myself on Monday. I had a good 24hr fast and then a SLICE of CHOC CAKE and about 45g of milk CHOC after my fast day meal. Very disappointing, but I couldn't help myself.

Well, fast #2 for this week and I'm going to go through it and I am NOT going to have that cake again today! Unfortunately there's still some of it left. But the milk chocolate is gone, I made sure of that on Monday

I am going to say something bad now @gorba... you could always put the chocolate cake in the dustbin! :dazed:

I wouldn't say no to that solution, except that:

a) it is home-made with my mother's damson jam in - so am a bit emotionally attached  I actually made it because of the jam which wouldn't hold much longer in the fridge and.... excuses, excuses, excuses
b) OH wouldn't be impressed and probably would be v.v. crossed as we don't hold any crisps, nibbles or soda at home lately

I am doomed... but thanks Auriga :)

I have done my 3 fasts last week. As you know from my previous report I had some cake and chocolate on Monday, but the fast itself was fine. On Wednesday I had a good fast and managed to stick to the fasting meal as planned. During the third fast on Friday I was feeling very, very hungry and "empty". I think I have exhausted my adrenal hormone levels. The reason for that may be that I didn't have enough to eat on Thursday and I finished eating too early, about 2pm. So, if I ever do 4:3 again I should remember to eat up on non-fasting days or just not do 24hr fasts, as I did this time. As a result I overate quite a lot after the fast on Friday and there was no weight loss this week.

I'm going to stick to 5:2 now or even 16:8 in some weeks. As I become leaner fasting for 24hr gets a bit harder too.

I forgot to add, although I haven't lost any weight on the scales I did lose some centimetres off my waist, hips and thighs, comparing to last week. The 3 fasts had to have some positive effect then. And we all know that weight is not an objective way of measuring progress as there are many factors that affect the daily number on the scales. Also my trend weight went down 0.3 kg since last week.

I might try 4:3 again then, when I stall or want to shake things up a bit. Just have to remember to eat more when not fasting.

I haven't done 4:3 for the last two weeks as life has got in the way (I had a farmers market and I can't physically handle the baking marathon on an empty stomach) and I won't be able to this week as we have a couple of nights away planned. Instead I am fasting today (and it is killing me this time) I'll do Tuesday or Wednesday, then next Saturday or Sunday.
Weight is still the same despite still doing 5:2 and I'm still fed up but hanging in there.

Quiet in here!
I'm back !!!!!!
Well, I will be on Sunday :)
Nearly three weeks of attempted eating window which wasn't really successful, but an interesting lesson.
No to the scales and tape measure until the ususal weigh in which is the beginignof March.
I do feel like the side of a small cottage though :(
Plan is 4:3 with a very mindful eating on the other days, but no calorie counting.
I'm going to be working away a fair bit so it will be challenging to keep up the HIIT, not anticipating problems with fasting.
Beloved's birthday so doing the final eating window thing and then off to see the Rolling Stones tonight. *excited*
All back to plain claes and purritch on Sunday (plain clothes and porage)
Can't wait :) :) :)
Contemplating the Easter challenge.....
Edited to add
I feel really rejuvenated and optimistic. Almost on a high! Wonder if it's the exercise and the new commitment to this WoL
Liking this feeling very much
