So shhhhhh big secret I going to get him a Flex off ebay for Valentines.

Big steps day for me today, 5k run then a 6.25 mile walk, my bed is already calling me

That's very good of you I'd be a wee bit cross to be honest. I think that's the best way round this. Either that or get it surgically attached.

@TBrewerton I'm gutted for you, I don't do that often anymore, it's become as important as my mobile.

Know how you feel TB, my battery went flat yesterday and I hardly recorded anything. Inspired by all you active bods and am now going for a session on my cross trainer. Must move up that leader board somehow!

Just done half hour. The only way I'll move up the leader board is for you all to forget your fitbits!!
Still, I'm an old bird now and I'll just pootle along at my own pace, happy in the knowledge I'm a lot fitter than most folk my age!

Very pleased with myself today - made my 10k, even though I was having a pottering today, with no particular need to go anywhere. Did it by lots of short walks into town, a fair bit of housework, and a walk up the hill. Planning similar again tomorrow.

One day I couldn't find mine and about had a meltdown looking for the d**n thing! I checked pockets, places where I usually put it everywhere - eventually checked the pants I had worn the day before. Crisis over.

TB, I feel your pain!

Hi @Winsome

Hubby has a flex, which he likes, but it won't record stairs climbed and sometimes he feels it's not recording his steps accurately. Also, the bracelet is not attractive, imho.

I have the one, which I usually just wear clipped in my bra. I have a wristband with a zipper that I wear it in for bed, and I have a few pairs of yoga pants that have a small zip pocket in the waistband. I love the one, but I notice that it doesn't record short bouts of steps (like under 10) and if I'm in the kitchen for an hour, cooking, it generally won't record any steps then either, even though I know I must have done at least 100 or 200. It also has trouble recording stairs when it's in my pocket. but on the flip side, if I'm climbing hills outside on a windy day, it gives me a crazy amount of credit for stairs sometimes LOL!

Neither of us would be willing to get the Force, because it's a solid piece with the wrist band. The wristbands wear out and with the Flex you can change them. With the force, once it's worn out, you need to buy a new Force. Also, you can't get the Force wet or wear it in the shower.

Hope this helps!!

I've just checked the Fitbit table before going to bed, and now I've had to log on here to find out what had happened to @TBrewerton! How frustrating for you Tim, but much better than the injury I thought you might have done yourself on the treadmill... And it'll just act as a spur to make you do even more tomorrow, I'm sure!
Goodnight all. :sleepy:

Need a quick bit (fitbit?) of advice - anyone about on this thread?
Going ice skating with the kids in half an hour. Will my one register my steps, or should I just time it and count it as an activity? If I do the latter, do I put the fitbit on the timer?
Thanks!

Depending on which device you have, it should register ice skating like walking -- especially if you are a clumsy skater!

Check your output later tonight and if you think it short-changed you on calories, enter the activity manually and it will give you a reasonable calorie count for the duration. Ice skating should be at least as calorie/minutes intensive as walking I would think, unless you're speed skating or playing hockey and violently checking your kids...

Okay, @BruceE, I'm still rather confused. I skated for about 50 minutes (assuming that you just leave the timer on, and don't turn it off while you are stopped taking ridiculous pics of the kids). I'm not a particularly clumsy skater (didn't fall once!), but I'm a fairly slow one. My intuition is that I took more than 622 steps, and burned more than 100 calories. But I couldn't begin to guess the "real" numbers, if those aren't correct. I'm sure I'm overthinking all this - the important thing is that we had lots of fun, I was moving most of the time, and we introduced son's girlfriend to skating.

50 minutes of skating slowly should be at least as calorific as slow walking, so if you figure 3mph and 2000 steps/mile you should get about 2.5 miles and 5000 steps. Rule of thumb is 100 calories per mile, so 250 calories isn't too much for that. You could justify 300 or even 350 calories I would think if it felt more-intense than a slow walk.

Thanks, @BruceE !! I like your numbers a lot better than fitbit's. Not sure why I registered so little, but I'm off now to see how I can edit the activity, and give myself close to what you suggested - 2.5 miles sounds unlikely (I probably stood around taking pictures for 10 minutes), so maybe 2 miles, 4000 steps, 200 calories is appropriate.

I appreciate having your guidelines, too, for future activities.

I'm going to mess up the leaderboard this week. Sorry everyone but fitbit does not do different time zones very well. It has counted my ten thousand steps and four something miles from yesterday.

Really annoying. I thought I'd managed to change the time zones automatically and it would figure it out. but alas.

But back home now after over two weeks of not meeting any goals, I'm hoping to make it back to top 5 again by the end of next week.

By the way, anyone else missing having the monthly fitbit chat in its old place? I can't find it easily here and have to type fitbit into the search engine or go to user cp.

@UmleilaI also prefer the old spot, but everything is much tidier now. just look in the active topics, its not usually too far down the list.
I am however very happy with my spot on the leaderboards, getting back to my "old self" on the front page, in the teens. yay
