Welcome back!! Your blogs were the only ones I read during those first difficult months. I've been lucky with my weight loss and I'm sure you'll succeed too. Getting a dog earlier this year has helped with getting my family more active, next goal is for them to lose some weight too.

ferretgal wrote: welcome "back," rawkaren! But what does this mean for those of us "stuck" in the foodie culture of the States???

@ferretgal. Somehow I now understand the protein shake culture there as at least you know what is in it (more or less) and a way of controlling intake in a cost effective way. California can be uber healthy as you know, but my experience was that it was chronically expensive to get good quality ingredients. Thank goodness for the Farmers Market where I lived which was fabulous. :like:
My big learning was portion sizes. Even eating healthily, it gets out of whack quite easily as you get used to a different norm. The food waste however was shocking to see.

@rawkaren, it was lovely to read your post because I think so many of us are in a similar position and it just makes me feel less bad about myself...look at my tracker and you'll see what I mean! I always come on the here everyday and if it wasn't for that I'd have put on more weight. I'm beginning to get my head in the right place for a big kick up the backside in the new year.

Well that is why we are here @wildmissus. We are all in this together.

Well done on your courage and determination!! I can completely relate to that embarrassing feeling of announcing that you're back, particularly when you have previously done well and then it's become difficult. But somehow, it feels safe here.

All the best for this part of your journey :like: :clover:

Welcome, welcome home Karen, and congrats on your fast :like:
Portions! Over the last year, when I dine out I ask for a small (half) portion and it's well received. I just can't face too much food on my plate, it takes away my pleasure and overtime my control. A few restaurants offer small or regular portions. I'm really impressed by my friends who have followed suit, just by observing me they ask for a small portion.
Best to you and OH, I bet your family are pleased as punch to have you home, enjoy.
x

Welcome back from me as well.Your knowledge of nutrition always makes interesting reading.I seem to remember that your mother lives in the East Midlands. Maybe if you are visiting her some time we could use it as a reason for a midlands meet up.

@wildmissuswhat happened to your body fat %. Did you have liposuction or new scales perhaps!

@Lil, I put in my BMI instead if my body fat %age. I did message @moogie but I guess she must be busy at the moment. Oh how I wish my body fat %age was my BMI but unfortunately it should read 41%.

@wildmissus If you go into weigh in stats on your tracker you can edit it yourself. ( I often make mistakes)

Sorry about that @wildmissus, didn't mean to ignore you - just been totally up to my eyeballs with deadlines the last couple of weeks, and exhausted by evening. Finished now for the holidays - yay!

As @Lil says, it's possible to edit these sort of mistakes yourself, through the weigh in stats page. I've messaged you back about it too.

Right, time to feed the clowder, they're getting cranky (is it just me, or do cats never adjust to the clock change?!)

Everyone on this thread is part of the Old Crowd (no, not that kind of old), and it's great to see all of you, especially @Moogie.
I've slipped a bit myself, and am trying, as I've said elsewhere, to do 5:2 in earnest! I don't know why it was so easy in 2014, and then became hard in 2015. But...time for a new year and a new outlook  .

Happy that I have managed two fasts over the holidays - that is only one a week but I did 16:8 on other days. Pretty restrained on the sugar front; traditional English Christmas pudding on Christmas day (for my US friends that is a steamed dried fruit pudding), which made a re-appearance as a strudel combined with grated pears and chocolate. I put crushed ginger biscuits between the filo layers.

I have been building up my fitness levels again slowly and feeling better for it but unfortunately I have managed to irritate the last disc in the bottom of my spine. So running is out again, but walking is good. My watch will be happy I'm meeting my standing goal as I have to move every 15 mins. However I can't deny I'm annoyed. So to take advantage of the situation I shall be combining fasting with low carb and high fat - a regime I know very well.

I have re-started blogging my weight loss journey, but have moved to a wordpress site as the blogs here don't seem to get much profile any more. Link in my signature.
