Positive Progress Report

Hi everyone

This is only my second post but really liking the forum, I thought I would share my results so far. At my first weigh in, the point where clothes started to feel tight and I couldn't even get into some of my favourite "slim fit" shirts I was 14st 11lbs, weight that had gragually crept on, that was on the 14th May '13. I started the Fasting Diet on 3rd June, at my weigh in this morning I was 14st 2lbs. To say I'm happy with this is an understatement! I keep track of the weight loss with an iPhone app and its great to see that little graph heading in the right direction.

I did find the change in diet a little tricky at first but now I am into it I find myself choosing the healthier options on non-fasting days. I have a different outlook on calorie intake, I even find myself declining the biscuits and cakes at work. I feel healthier and pleased to say I do have more energy.

So far this weight loss has been achieved simply by changes in my diet, my next goal is to introduce exercise into my regime. I'm an office worker and do no exercise at the moment but have consciously changed little things such as walking up the two flights of stairs at work instead of using the escalator, walking to certain places instead of taking a cab or getting a lift. My intention is to start running a little so any hints or tips for an unfit novice would be appreciated.

Anyway, I'll leave it there for now and wish everyone on this plan health and happiness.

Henners

Hi @Henners, I warmly recommend the Couch to 5 K program if you're starting up running.

It's a program designed to let your joints and ligaments improve in strength along with your leg muscles and heart/lungs, because the most common mistake for beginners is pushing way too hard and straining something.

I use the podrunner intervals podcasts to time my intervals, the way the DJ fits the rhythm of the music to the cadence of the run is very helpful in keeping up the intensity.

I completed the course a few years ago, and in a matter of a few months was able to run 10 km without effort (the full C25K plus podrunner's "Freeway to 10K" course is 19 weeks, but it took less time than that). Unfortunately I got out of the habit of running, so now I'm using the same program again to get back on track.

Thanks for the replies guys, it's really encouraging, I have no doubt everyone has a dip at some point but there seems to be plenty of inspiration kicking around on here.

Glassmarble, thanks for that advice, I will check out those apps, I don't think I've ever been so determined to become fitter. I turn 40 this year and the news of James Galdofini's (The Sopranos main man for the uninitiated) untimely death after a heart attack aged just 51 gave me kick I needed.

Hope to chat with you all at some point throughout this journey.

Good luck everyone.
