Sorry you're not feeling up to par Cblasz.....tis the season. We're all pulled in too many directions at once.

Have fun skating Canoegal! I'm not a cold weather sport person AT ALL. I really should be living in FL or Arizona as there is not one thing I like about winter. I play golf, so warm weather is when I'm happiest.

Had my potatoes for lunch and so far, so good. My appetite sort of shut off late this morning so I didn't end up eating lunch until 1. More taters for dinner tonight......wonder how much energy I'll have for boot camp tomorrow morning? It's an experiment! It may be something I do periodically to change up my fast days. I'm certainly not going to eat nothing but taters for days and days! Blech!

2 of the girls in my office are coming on board with IF in the new year. I don't know why they are waiting, but that is their choice. I have to set a good example and help them along. They both need to lose 30-40 lbs just like me, so it'll be nice to have company on my journey! They may lose faster(scale weight) than I do since I do lots of exercise and they do none.

Inventory time here. What a pain. I've been working with the crew to try to figure out where the differences are in the count. I work for an electric utility and this is an annual PITA!

Hope you're all having a good day!

Nope....the potato thing is not for me. I may do it for a meal now and then on a fast day, but I needs my protein! I did enjoy my lunch and wasn't any more hungry in the afternoon, but come dinner time, I just couldn't face potatoes again. Maybe on a day when I don't do boot camp I could do it for a whole day, but not on a heavy exercise day.

Live and learn, I guess!

How did everyone do today?

I'm hanging in there. We have Awana tonight at church. I'm trying to figure out next weeks fast. Monday is easy but I moved my 2nd fast to Wednesday from Thursdays because I work at the church on Thursdays and they are always feeding us. But now next week on Wednesday night Awana is having a Birthday party for Jesus at 7:50 that night. So my thought is I fast on Monday like normal; then just for Wednesday next week start my fast on Thursday night after supper and end it Wednesday night at the birthday party and only have one cup cake. I will still do the 16:8 on Saturdays. I'm hoping this will work. I haven't lost weight now in over a month and a half but I haven't regained either. I really like the repairing benefits of fasting so I figure if I just keep this up eventually the weight will start going down again.. maybe after the new year. So long story short.. I'm thinking if I do this for Wednesday this will at least keep me in the habit of fasting.

Sounds like a good plan, @Canoegal. The holidays are a tough time of year to lose weight, but if you maintain at least its better than gaining.

I've apparently gained a kg in Tokyo on my 4 day weekend. I suspect things will look better after my next fast. Other than one night of stupid amounts of alcohol, I actually ate quite healthily, though perhaps more than usual…

I am American, btw, but living in Japan. I'm in about the same time zone as the Australians here (maybe I am in the same time zone as some??) Like @Marybeth, I heard about 5:2 in a NYTimes article in March 2013.

I fasted quite well yesterday - an easy day - but today I felt fat and bloated - go figure!!!?? I was only going to fast one day a week til Xmas but, at this rate, don't think that is going to be enough. We are sitting here on the West coast waiting for the biggest rain storm of the year BUT I think all those on the East coast are REALLY suffering - good luck everyone.

I think this cold weather and the long dark nights do something to our metabolisms that makes it tougher to lose weight. It certainly makes me want to eat. And there are all those special treat foods that are only a round this time of year.

It will be a lot easier to diet in January because so many people then do it for a week or two. So the psychic energy is full of diet thoughts and the temptations are temporarily out of sight. Its all over by the Superbowl, but it is nice while it lasts.

I agree about winter slowing metabolisms down. We only have sun from about 8-4 at this time of year which makes it hard to get outside. We have been ice skating cc skiing and snow shoeing, but that isn't near as much exercise as we have in the spring summer and fall. And if I'm inside a lot I tend to snack more than if I'm active. My goal with 5-2 this winter is not to gain, hopefully the weight will come off when the sun comes back in the spring

@canoegal. I think you have it very tough living there in winter time. My sister used to live in MN and her skin used to crack really badly from the cold and being indoors too much. Having said that she ended up getting real slim when she lived there! As @lovemyparrot said, I'm missing San Francisco's biggest storm of the year so far, but in the UK right now, it's getting dark at 2.30pm (I'm in the north), and we have had a storm now for the past 24 hours. The boredom alone makes you want to eat - that's why I count everything!

So, I'm doing the "soup detox" I was talking about; going fine. Not completely following Dr Oz's plan, but keeping it to veggies and fruit and a bit of protein. Hoping this helps with the bad eczema outbreak, which is resolving. And I was trying to get a cold, but seem to have fought that off. Tomorrow is my usual light day, but will be the last day of the detox, so I'm going that route. Other than just wanting to cleanse a bit, thinking that maybe this will "jump start" my weight loss a bit.

It's funny, I'm so much more comfortable with hunger now; I realize that any issues I have with a short "diet" like this is "all in my head."

Good Morning!
We finally got a couple inches of snow overnight after them talking about it all week! I'm bagging boot camp. I just don't feel like cleaning the car off early to go. The husband will clean it off for me for work later.
Down a pound this morning and QUITE hungry. I'm having my first cup of coffee now and trying to decide what I want to eat. I'm going to save most of my calories for dinner tonight as we're going out to a nice Italian place with a bunch of the guys(and their wives) that my husband used to work with. I usually get ravioli with portobello mushrooms in a pink cream sauce. Oh my...it is so good. Not to mention the bread they make there! This will be a feast day for sure!
Having Sears come today to do routine maintenance on my treadmill to get it all ready for us. I'll have to run home from work when I get the call. I though hubby would be home this afternoon, but turns out he's going hunting so I'll have to leave work and come home. Luckily, that's not a problem.

That's my day........what's happening with you?

I'm thinking of making today a fast day. I had a bulletproof decaf this morning at 5am and just had one of my home made grass fed meat patties (burger) with a large portion of broccoli for lunch. I'm stuffed and doubt I will need anything else for the rest of the day. I have some studying to do this afternoon so I'm fully fuelled!

@Rawkaren,

Sundown at 2:30? How far north are you? It's dark by 4:30 here and that is bad enough for me!

@peebles. I'm in Northumberland at the moment not too far from @silverdarling. We are 55 degrees north and the skies are typically grey this time of year although sundown is not officially until around 3.30pm. The difference between here and San Francisco seems very stark this time of year. However it is joyous during the April to June months. It seems light all day!

Like you, karen, I've been so bored (and testy) the last couple of days, staying home first because of rain threatening freezing rain all day, then yesterday snow all day. Poor OH apologized this morning before going out (snow stopped, everything open again) for being so annoying (hanging out, asking me questions, etc.--"What's for dinner" at 2pm--aargh!) What a man!--I'm testy and he's apologizing! Also wants me to fix his Netflix that won't stream for some reason. :dazed:

I'll be going out soon for Strength Class --he won't be joining me today because he's at a dental appt. Then this afternoon to the library for my volunteer shift. It's only been two days, but it feels like getting out of prison.

I'm sorry for my team now in San Fran. It is the holiday party today. We had an outdoor teambuilding event (now moved indoors), followed by dinner and then a trip to Kurios (Cirque du Soleil) over at AT&T Park. Unfortunately they are considering canceling the Kurios event tonight due to the weather. Whilst the Big Top has been tested in severe conditions, if they are uncertain, they will call it off. Besides which they have shut The Embarcadero as the sea has breached the wall, so a good chance it could be off. Such a pity for everyone.
