I wore a pair of new white cropped trousers yesterday, that I bought LAST YEAR for my holiday, hoping I would slim into them. They didn't even get packed for the holiday, they were just embarrassingly tight. I wore them yesterday, after 3 minutes I had to put a belt on them. That's another item for the ebay pile. I now have a lovely pair of linen trousers I am wearing that I ripped the button off when I relaxed my tummy, again last year.

But, I'm not seeing much difference in the top department yet. The vests I habitually wear have started looking baggy under the armpits, my bra's are feeling a bit more comfortable and need me to occasional;ly do up one set of hooks tighter, but I still can't wear blouses as the buttons gape on stuff that fits the shoulders, if they don't gape its because I am wearing a ridiculously big top that falls off my shoulders. It will come, I can feel it.

I even have a promise off hubby, that when I say so, the money for clothes I refused in May (birthday gift) will still be there and doubled, for new clothes.

When I saw the title in the index, I thought "Oh no!! Not Simcoe!" Then I started reading and it wasn't too long before I was laughing out loud.

Thank you for your witty post.

This is my first time on the 5-2 diet. I live in Saudi Arabia, so it is tough, because food is quite a big part of life here. I failed on the first day, because I underestimated the number of calories in foods such as milk and yoghurt.

The question I have is which tools may I use to count calories effectively? Also, many foods are calculated by 100grams, so how does one calculate how many grams are on the plate....e.g. in a piece of salmon steak.

Sorry for my ignorance, cut counting calories does not seem easy.

@ ghost, you would generally have the amount of gram per servicing or piece on the package, if all else fails I'm one for weighting all that goes into my mouth, a food scale is a great thing to have on this WOL. Also would recommend you get an app called Myfitnesspal on your phone to track count of calories/weights/measure. Good luck!

But just think of all the money you've saved on food for the last few months.

@simcoeluv To be honest if I lost 14 pounds (a stone!!!) in 3 months I'd be thrilled! Thats 4 stone in a year! I guess it depends if you're a glass half full kind of person and I like to think I am. After failing miserably for nearly 3 decades on diets that promise fast weight loss, slow and steady would suit me just fine. Here's hoping!!!

I don't think a pound a week is slow, but the fact is some people do. And women tend to lose weight more slowly than men - here is why: 5-2-diet-chat-f6/topic6600.html

On any diet, it is the persistence that counts. Losing a lot of weight (and keeping it off) takes a lot of time! :clover:

Hi All:

So many newbies. Over 13,000 now on site. I can't keep up with them all.

Good Luck!

Just watching a programme on TV about retail made me think how long it has been since I went on a clothes-buying trip I actually enjoyed (I was a size 12 once - albeit it not for long!). Can't wait to do it again!
