What happens if you slip?

So, today was supposed to be my second-ever fast day. First was Tuesday. I did great until supper with the family. :/ It was interesting to learn about myself - bread is my downfall! Especially garlic bread with spaghetti! I had my salad and spaghetti portion all planned out to stay right neatly within my 500 calories with one slice of bread.

Seriously? What was I thinking??? That's like trying to eat just one potato chip (or crisp, since this is a UK based group).

Ugh.

So, by my calculations, I'm at 600 - 650 calories - thank god it was a low-cal bread and I didn't smother it in butter.

My question for you who've done this for a while is: Do I "count" this as a fast day? What do I do when this happens? Scrub the whole day as a fail and try again tomorrow? Just try to be more mindful and do better next time? Go out and walk/run/exercise the extra 200 calorie overage "away"?

I feel like I've learned from this and will know better how to avoid this sort of slip next time, but I'd like to know how you folks handle this sort of goof if it happens to you?

Don't be too hard on yourself. Count it as a fast day and keep moving forward! :heart:

It takes a couple of weeks to settle into this WOL so just put it down to experience and move on. I generally avoid carby foods like pasta and bread on Fast days as I find it hard to limit myself to just one slice. Have a look through the recipe section and give yourself some inspiration. So, yes count it as a Fast day and enjoy the next couple of days of "normal" eating. Good luck.

It will get easier so do not beat yourself up. Failure does not fit in here, if not convenient to fast for whatever reason try again another day. This is very much a way of life not a diet and it takes a while to lern about yourself and your eating habits. As has been said do not factor in trigger foods on a fast day. If I had cake or biscuits I would descend into a binge. Always plan what you eat on a fast day. I save all my calories for an evening meal so I have a full meal and do not feel deprived. I usually have a piece of fish with veg and sugar free jelly for pud.
You have done your first fast day and learned how to manage it better so hopefully the next one will be easier.

Definitely count it as a fast day - things will settle down and hopefully you will get into a rhythm of eating smaller meals 2 days a week.... My first few fast days have been higher than the recommended amount... I am still proud of my achievement and had lost over 9lb in 18 days...

Count it as a successful fast day! Even at 650 calories this is probably a huge reduction on your usual calorie intake, so you have made a good start on your first weeks-worth of overall calorie reduction. Good luck for your second week!
