Not eating on a fast day

Hiya,
I was just wondering - I haven't been hungry at all today (it's 9pm now) and I was wondering if it's okay not to eat at all, or should I have 500 calories for the 5:2 to work properly?
If I'm not hungry, and I don't need to actually eat, no point :)

Welcome!
You don't have to eat anything if you don't feel like it :) the 500/600 cals is just a recommended amount, small enough to lose weight but large enough to allow the fasts to not be an ordeal ;)

Ah brilliant! Thanks :)
Will the 5:2 be any more effective if I don't eat on my fast day?

Ummm I think that would depend on your weigh stats etc and exercise. And how much you eat on feed days

Should be more effective, you'll be 500/600 calories better off if nothing else & if there are health benefits from fasting well great!

Just the info I was looking for -thanks! Although I had spells of hunger on my first fasting day I'm the type of person who once they start can't stop so I figured it's best for me not to start! Hope things are still going well.

Hi
I also don't eat at all on fast days. Water , black coffee and herbal/green teas only. It's tough for the first few fasts but you do get used to it. It gives you a really clean lean de-toxed feeling when you wake up the morning after.

I've stopped eating anything on my fast days. It's like a hunger switch is flipped if I eat, and I become more (not less) hungry. So now I just ride out the hunger waves and wait until breakfast. And oh, that breakfast always tastes so good!

A growing number of 5:2ers are doing zero calorie/ water/ liquid fasts twice a week. I found I wasn't hungry for the 500cals and that it was easier not to trigger the appetite on fast days so have been water fasting for a couple of months now. I've experienced wonderful benefits - weight loss, improved memory and mood and saving money on groceries!!

I have been doing my fasts with just dinner from the beginning, and can easily see myself going without food altogether. My weight loss has been good so far so I may just keep it up my sleeve in case I need to shake things up later. What I love about this forum is the variety of approaches and the willingness to share information/experiences!

then there are of us who still lose weight on 500 calories 5:2 with clothing becoming loose and happy to go along albeit at a slower pace. I am not there yet for not eating on a fast day but wishing everyone who is all the best
