Hi!
I am fasting again today. I weighed 79.1 today! back to the beginning just over the weekend! that's sad, I'm not completely sure it is accurate, let's see tomorrow.
I don't feel as much hunger today as I did on my previous fast, that's good.

It's pretty amazing actually, given your weight is already so low. It is usually much harder to lose weight, the less you have to lose.

Yes, Cblasz, I know. I was 58.5 kg this morning  . But my weight is not yet very low, because I am short. My BMI is very near 23 points.

You aren't VERY short and 23 is a low BMI!

Today my weight was 58.5 kg again. That makes for a BMI of 22.85. I remember Moogie saying that a BMI of 22 is healthy.

Actually the healthy range is 18.5 to 25.

I remember that old thread and reading, then and since, that the recommended-BMI vs age graph is "U" shaped. That we're better off having a somewhat higher BMI as we get older.

Even this generality seems uncertain as one sizeable meta-study shows as we age, that men should move towards the lower end of the standard normal range and that women should consider the higher normal range into the low overweight(!?) category. What!? Need to do more digging.

Relying on BMI, beyond it being cheap and simple, as the commonly referenced standard seems to have too many issues to be useful. A "good" BMI in an individual with central fat could mask a potentially serious issue. The previous paragraph is starting to make more sense given the effects of menopause after which central fat tends to increase. This makes sense from the male perspective too. Losing weight - that will reduce central fat first - could tend to increase their relative health.

Hi everyone!

I wasn't posting when the format for the forum wasn't working "properly" - a bit confusing (and couldn't be bothered??!) to find my way around on the iPad.

And then I came off my bicycle and have fractured my left clavicle. Typing is not the easiest... But given there are lots of things I can't do while the fracture heals, typing is still accessible to me. Was doing it one handed, but am now (carefully?) using my left hand too. Am still in hospital, but expect to go home today - because I couldn't recall what happened, the doctors are being very cautious and so are running a series of tests to check it wasn't a heart attack. Hopefully that was very unlikely, as I do think I am quite fit. But of course anything can happen.

Anyway...

I shall weigh (!) into this discussion with my usual mantra... It is not so much your actual weight (number) that is important, but how healthily you are eating - and living in general. When we focus on the number we can sometimes forget about ensuring that we are looking after ourselves properly with what we eat and how we exercise (etc).

I do believe that some fasting can be good for us, but it can be overdone, and there may be times in life when it is better not to (like me at the moment, in the initial stages of mending my fractured bone - which will take 6-8 weeks apparently).

I do now know what I weigh - couldn't avoid hearing at the hospital. It is what I guessed... I have regained half the weight I lost on 5:2. Tho at least I am still in the healthy weight range - and I do take note of ADFnfuel's inference about post menopausal women needing a bit more body fat (which I have heard from other sources). But it is not the actual weight that is the issue - it is the overeating and eating when not hungry that remain my concern. I am hoping that this shock to my system (the accident) and having my weight confirmed, may be an impetus for me to change my behavior?? But I am not holding my breath.

Sorry, all about me again!

Sorry Sassy to hear about your accident! Please don't do the same mistake I did over a year ago when I broke my shoulder. I comfort ate a lot. I am still trying to get rid of that extra weight. I have increased my weight goal as I have gotten older. It is just that I cannot afford to buy a whole new wardrobe. Trying to fit into some of my clothes. That is about where it is at, Still at 58.5 kg this morning.

OMG @Sassy1 - I'm so sorry to hear about your accident!! That sounds very scary, especially if you don't remember what happened! I hope you are able to go home soon and your recovery does not take too long!

And I think the fact that you are still in the healthy weight range is great. Life is too short to worry about being "skinny"!!! I unfortunately have a long way to get to the healthy weight range, but once I get there, I will be very happy with that and will just have to work at staying there!

Thanks @margotsylvia and @cblasz for your concern and good wishes. I am doing okay - I think - all things considering. I came home yesterday - assume my heart is fine. See the physio today and my GP on Friday re forward management of the fracture and other injuries.

Very good advice Margot re not comfort eating. I did allow myself a bit yesterday on my first day home, but do plan to get that under control from today. Fingers crossed. Btw you must has been quite slim if you still need to lose weight to fit into your clothes.

And quite agree cblasz about not worrying about being skinny. Much as I would like to have less of a tummy (wouldn't be so bad if it was firm!!). I would like to have better control of the senseless eating but do wonder whether that will always be a challenge. In the short term, I will be exercising far less so that is a further challenge re amount of food consumed. You seem to be doing okay overall though? Your weight is going down, and you are getting in your steps generally. This losing weight business and then keeping it off just isn't easy for most people. Continued good wishes. Your determination deserves to be rewarded.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Margot!
