I actually find this quite inspirational, as I have been doing it for the same amount of time, and have been struggling with fitting it into a life that doesn't have too much routine at the moment. I think I will definitely come back to the forum after our holiday, and get started again then! Jenny: AndWineNot?

Exercise definitely helps!

Am I really a casualty of chocolate?
I started using 5:2 fasting a month ago. My primary aim was to improve my general health but since my weight and BMI are also way too high, was hoping that they would also improve. The book makes the claim that it's an easy diet to stick to because it's not every day. Whilst I don't normally either diet or have problems with commitment to a regime of any kind, this still appealed to and intrigued me. I do have a problem losing weight. Until now, the only way I have succeeded is by completely cutting out carbs for a long period of time (I did it for six months and lost about a stone.) Otherwise, it doesn’t matter how much I exercise or how little I eat – I’m not a particularly big eater anyway – the weight just stays there.
After a month on the diet, I still haven’t really lost much weight. I did lose two pounds in the first week but thereafter absolutely nothing. However, I have definitely seen other benefits. My skin is clearer – when I started I had a back full of spots and would get regular blemishes on my face but these have all but cleared up. I also feel generally “better” in myself and although I can’t put anything concrete into words, I can feel that something good is happening.
So, whilst I’m a little frustrated that I’m not losing weight, I’m more than happy to continue because I can feel other benefits as well. I’m now going to start cycling the four miles to and from work each day to see if the increased activity help any further.
I've also started to gradually reduce the number of calories I consume during a fast day. When I started, I was missing breakfast, having about 300 calories at lunch and then 200 at dinner but I've now cut lunch to just over 200 at lunch and kept dinner about the same. I'll see how this goes for another month and then decide if I need to do more. The only thing I don't doubt is that I can make this a way of life and not just a temporary fad.

The first change was to slightly reduce my calories on the fast days - I'd been doing around 500 per day but managed to cut this by about 50-60.
The second was to cycle the four miles to and from work each day.
In week 5 I did exactly this and lost three pounds!
I'd like to have been more scientific about this and only changed one aspect at a time to see which one worked best but I'm fairly certain it was the cycling which did it.
In week 6, I spent a lot of the week away with family so my fast days were squeezed into the end of the week and I didn't cycle but I still lost a pound. This could be because whilst I didn't cycle, I did do a lot of walking and was very active all week, instead of my usual sedentary job. It's been so much easier over the weekend to be active too - sunny weather is such a bonus. We've spent all weekend either in the garden or at the allotment - weeding, digging etc so hopefully I'm still heading in the right direction.
Fast days Tuesday & Thursday:
No breakfast, light lunch, lighter tea!
