My first 24 hour fast

by DeeWidiastuti on 01 Oct 2013, 06:24

I've been doing IF for about a month now, doing 16:8 eating window, although most of the time it's more like 18:6. I have never tried doing a full fast before because I just thought that I couldn't do it. I did try to push my feeding window to 20:4 a couple of times, but each time had been rough, the hunger pangs were intense and after breaking fast I felt sick. So I thought I'd never do it again.

I have been doing quite well losing weight using 16:8 window, as you can see on my progress tracker. I wasn't even doing it everyday, just 4-5 days per week but the weight kept moving down. Until last Sunday when I had a big splurge and saw a big jump on the scale  . I was not happy about it, and I felt like I needed to do some damage control. So I decided to try doing a full fast day.

So on my last meal on Sunday evening was at 7 pm. Afterwards I didn't eat anything, only had water and tea (no sugar) until dinner time on Monday evening at 6.30 pm. So technically it was a 23,5 hours fast  . Then I break the fast with dinner and some fruit afterwards. I didn't precisely count the calories but it was around 700 cals. So not the suggested 500 cals but still  . I remembered Carorees' advice that if 500 cals is too daunting for me, I can start with higher calories, so that's what I did.

I was surprised to find that unlike my previous 20:4 attempts, the full fast was not rough at all. I tried to kept busy most of the time, either with household stuff or reading and doing things on the laptop. I switched my exercise time from morning to afternoon to keep it closer to my break fast time. And overall it went well, I had only a few hunger moments which passed quickly, and I still had a good level of energy through out the day.

This morning I stepped on the scale and it went down again! It was a successful first fast in my book! I'm happy to know that I can do it and it wasn't as scary as I imagined it. I'm going back to doing 16:8 now, but from time to time I will do a 24 hrs fast whenever I need a bump. :victory:
