I didn't eat until night time and the only hot drink I had all day was a coffee I grabbed before I jumped on the train at lunchtime. Cafe Nero do an expresso con panna. (cream) I had a double. That saw me through until I got home. I didn't know what to have and OH was coming home late so I made a prawn curry. I was going to do it with curry powder but I was so looking forward to some nice food I mixed my own spices with fenugreek, turmeric, chilli flakes, mustard seed, nigella seeds. Obligatory onion and garlic fried in water, spices added and dry fried, half a fish stock cube, some water, a cup of cherry tomatoes and 10 raw prawns from the freezer. Topped off with a large handful of coriander leaves. I needed some bulk so added some slim pasta. Not very indian, but it felt substantial. I even had calories left for a cheekly glass of malbec.
I didn't exercise on Wednesday as I had a really long, but thoroughly enjoyable day out with a very dear friend who was over from California. I did Kenpo X yesterday but decided this morning to do the routine I was supposed to do on Weds (legs and back and then 15 mins of abs), instead of stretching, which was on the calendar. It's a really tough workout and it was a killer to get through the morning after a fast day. A couple of times I felt queasy and a bit dizzy but I got through it. However I really felt I needed to eat something straight afterward so had a couple of slices of paleo banana bread, a large handful of walnuts, a banana and just now, the paleo pumpkin bread I baked this morning. So that is 775 worth of calories already! Huh!
It's my birthday today and it feels a bit weird not to be in an office surrounded by cake, cards, and general birthday distractions. I made a conscious decision when I reached 50 last year to take some time out and not work full time for a while. I could have easily just chugged on and let another year go by. I have packed in alot this year. I went to Oman, Paris and Mallorca (Mallorca alot), learned to skipper a powerboat, (got my license), learned how to use my camera finally and take some decent pictures, spend more time with my family, and of course, learn about 5:2 and join this fabulous forum. I also reckon I'm about 14lb's less than this time last year (I only know from my clothes size). So I reckon it's been a fabulous year, but my gap year will need to come to an end soon as I need to earn a living and the isolated bit of consulting work from time to time will not be enough.
One thing I know for sure is that I will be fitter and healthier if I ever go back full time than ever.
