Day 97. Fast Day 32
by rawkaren on 25 Nov 2013, 07:35
I lost half a pound last week which I considered quite good considering I had 3 days of carb fest at the front end of the week. The BMI nudged down to 23.99 which made me laugh but its funny how good it made me feel to have a BMI of 23 something......
Fridays Fast Day Numbers:
Calories 437
Carbs 28% (30g)
Fat 58% (28g)
Protein 14% (15g)
Breakfast was a bulletproof coffee, lunch zero noodles with mushroom sauce and a large plate of broccoli and coconut water throughout the day. Exercise was only half of kenpo x because an old mate phoned me in the middle of it, so I went out for a long walk later and did about 12000 steps.
Saturday 1622 calories (upped deliberately because I have been having heart palpitations and wanted to get carbs and potassium into my system). More in a moment. This was a couple of hundred calories over my TDEE.
Carbs 52% (218g)
Fat 37% (69g)
Protein 11% (46g)
Breakfast was a poached egg with two pieces of paleo sandwich bread. Lunch a huge pile of stir fried leeks, shredded brussels, shallots, pancetta and chestnuts.
Snacks involved a home made pear and berry crisp (low carb crumble), low fat, sugar free tea loaf and four medjool dates.
Exercise was an hour of shoulders, arms, triceps and abs. Phase two has started and I'm feeling it this morning.
Sunday 1185 calories (I think I underestimated a bit because I was testing food in the kitchen)
Carbs 28% (84g)
Fat 60% (80g)
Protein 12% (37g)
Breakfast was a pear and berry crisp, lunch was a home made mousakka but then I turned it into a lasagne because I found a way of making low carb pasta and then snacks of a home make kale, mushroom and walnut loaf and a handful of walnuts. Exercise was plyo's which was high cardio, and as I was fuelled with carbs I was able to work out doubly hard. My face was bright red at the end of it - not a good look.
So the palpitations have been worrying me enough to see if I can get an ECG as well when I have my medical next Tuesday. I'm going to call BUPA today to see if that is possible. It's probably the effects of low carbing and going too low. Saturday's episode was quite bad and so I slapped on the heart monitor as I was around when it kicked off. My resting pulse was reading in the 90's vs the 60's which is what it is normally. BP readings normal. I scarfed four dates as I know they are high potassium and felt a bit better one hour later. So during the day I ate as much carbs and foods as I felt I needed.
Yesterday I felt it again but not to the same extent, slapped on the monitor, but resting pulse in low 70's this time, so not too bad. This time I had a bouillon drink but it didn't make much of a difference.
So I think I'm not going to drop my carbs so low this week as I don't like how it makes me feel. I am just going to stick to primal friendly stuff which tends to be lowish carb, but not as low as to go into ketosis.
However all that paleo stuff went right out of the window yesterday when I made a kale, mushroom and walnut loaf. I was experimenting Christmas entertaining dishes as I have lots of veggie mates and its a nordic take on a nut roast. It was a lovely festive dish (better I think served with a sweet cranberry relish ), but mammia mia, did the grains hit me hard. It contained whole spelt and oats, both of which are healthy low GI foods. However not being used to too many grains, one piece felt like I was carrying a lump of lead in my stomach. Filling does not even begin to describe it. The portion worked out at 218 cals and 20g of carbs, but it felt more like a 600 cal meal and I had to wait a good couple of hours before I went into the gym (I worked out late yesterday).
So today is a fast day and it will be interesting to see if the palpitations start again. I'm at home this week, apart from tomorrow, so can keep an eye on it.
