I have made the pies with bread dough, Hovis granary flour, I cannot remember the calorific values of each pie just as dough, but I substituted the following: 100g of chicken breast, good sprinkle of dried herbs, dried chili flakes, bit of salt and pepper, bake in foil to stop it drying out then chop finely and divide between pasties - 160cals in the full amount of chicken so you can work it out per pastie.
The original Hairy pies with mince etc worked out at 355 per pie. Good luck!

Trusty Pastie

Our fast day pastie is made with a bread dough, rather than pastry and is especially good as a brunch because it is filling and just as importantly it looks filling! The original recipe is from the Hairy Dieters cook book and is 231 cals per pastie, I make eight at a time, freeze them raw and when we need them for our fast day I bake them for 35 minutes, from frozen, the night before whilst making dinner. By the time you come to eat it the next day the flavours have infused into the bread and it is yummy.
But I really need to vary the fillings as this is going to take some months! We have advanced to curried potato and cauliflower. But need to think of more!
Won't make my Solstice Challenge #45 - target 11st 12lb / 75.5kg. Too distracted!
