Slowly down the fast track...

I'm planning to write here a brief history of my experience doing 5:2, from the start through to reaching my target...

The end of the downhill and the start of the flat...

by dominic on 28 Apr 2013, 19:18

On Friday last, my usual weigh-in day (being the day after my 2nd fast day of the week) I reached my target. On our scales this is 9st 3lb which is after a fairly rough'n'ready correction for the fact that our scales are optimistic, about 9st 5lb. I set this as a target to allow for a 2lb 'bounce back' which is what seems to happen every week between the end of my 2nd fast day (always the low point) and the start of the 1st fast day of the next week (the high point). So my idea is to maintain at 9 1/2 stone, which is pretty much in the middle of the 'normal' BMI range and is more or less the weight I was in my early twenties, and much lighter than I have been ever since.

Since starting 5:2 on 3 September 2012, through to 25 April 2013, it's been an absorbing - at times too absorbing - journey and rather than bore everyone by posting about it as a Progress Report I'm experimenting by writing here in a blog.

At the moment I feel very pleased to have 'arrived' at my target but also slightly bereft. I no longer have a goal! I just have to maintain, which in some ways may be harder...

As well as the process of 5:2 dieting, I also want to write about this forum which has been in itself such an influence on me since I joined way back in January...

Oh this is so dull! I will have to try again, sorry...

Dominic, I was enjoying that..why have you scored through it? It is great to hear you achieved your target weight and I can also see how in a way you would feel bereft. You are on a different path now. Keep blogging, we hopefully will all arrive at our goals and we need to know how to maintain once we get there!
Thank you dhana for your positive comment! Compared with posting on the forum, blogging seems so much more like talking to oneself, it's strange. So I don't quite feel I have found the right voice for it yet.

Good luck on your 5:2 journey and see you in maintenance 'heaven' soon I hope - bereft or not!
Please keep blogging. I found it very instructive especially the scales and bounce back. I have been doing that so that reduces my frustration About that. So this forum has sucked me in and taken up a lot of my time, but its very helpful.
Well done in reaching your goal. I also found interesting your reflection on the mid range BMI as your goal considering the concept of an ideal younger weight. It is good to be realistic I think and taking from your history was a reasonable younger healthy weight range.
Congrats
I agree with Dhana and Gillymary; it's good to hear about your 5:2 experience Dominic, especially since you have reached your goal weight. Congratulations! It is inspiring for those of us still working towards our goal to hear from those who've completed the journey, so please do continue your blog!
