Just another voice to say I'm losing slowly but steadily and I am visiting the patisseries more often than I should! I live in a very charming and arty small town that is now blessed with two high quality patisseries.

I had fish and chips and peas and ale for lunch! Very nice too. And just to prove to myself that I wasn't being greedy I left a few chips. A very few...
But none of the component parts of this meal, especially eaten the way you describe, should make too much difference to your total calories for the week and therefore your weight loss, particularly as you don't eat like this every night of the week! Just enjoy them!
I know what you mean about guilt from previous slimming regimes. I have only been eating this way for three weeks and can't help myself from totting up calories in my head and thinking about how awful to be eating 'forbidden' foods! If I am to make this WOE (way of eating) a permanent lifestyle choice then I am hoping that I will learn to view food - all foods - differently but I can't help you with how long it will take! Sorry!

Well, I at them and enjoyed them. Had a little moment feeling 'unhealthy', but OH quickly pointed out that I'd been bought a small portion, and not eaten all of that. It was very nice.Yay for 5:2 fasting I say!!
It was OH's b'day so I had an all-day brekkie with a half a side order of chips and maybe 3 slices of homemade fruit cake with a lovely (if I say so myself) cinnamon and sugar dropping, plus some other healthier food (wee bit of leftover chicken cous cous and guacamole) yesterday and have weighed less this morning.
I have this theory that if I eat something "bad", I eat less of it and then eat less otherwise as I'm not substituting more of other stuff for the thing I really wanted, if that makes sense?

Well done Lucky7! You faced your fears and overcame them! - Well, perhaps that is a slight exaggeration but you know what I mean!
I am off to Germany on Tuesday and, thanks to the many comments on this and other topics, I am fully intending to eat cake from my daughters local baker! Hopefully, not every day (unlike previous visits!) but with no feelings of guilt! 5:2 forever!

The Fish and chip meal has NO DIET ISSUES attached to it at all
so long as you moderate the meals on either side
its as simple as that
if you have a big supper booked, have a light breakfast and no lunch, then you can eat what you like at supper
its blindingly obvious once you start to think of your calorie intake on a weekly basis

Ooo - enjoy Germany. I love going there. I shall be off for a 'Hen' (eek) weekend in the Easter hols, and am most looking forward to guilt-free Spatzle.

And THIS is where I want to go to eat it... my favourite bar / food hall in Berlin...

Indeed, after only two weeks the key I am finding is to make sure you eat on your feast days.
Makes you forget about loosing weight, and stops you getting bored, and means you have a better consistent energy.
I suppose science wise that makes sense as it the bodies ability to "switch" which is important in keeping you wide awake when you are awake!

I think the only reason I would have a problem with this meal is .. well, I'd physically have a problem with this meal. I love fish and chips but the last two times I've tried having them since starting this (in August, both times were after a month or two of starting 5:2) I felt horribly ill. Not food poisoning ill, just stomach cramping and generally feeling as if I'd consumed too much grease.
It's all about moderation, of course, I think I just had too much of a good thing. And whenever I have fried food again, I'll keep that in mind!
(am glad your experience went better than my own! )

Glad you enjoyed them, Lucky!
I'm a vegan, like Anthony, but you must have your treats and eat them if only so you can tell your non-5:2 friends how good this WOL is!
My vegan treat - which I would never have before I embarked on this regime - is tempura!
I make a simple bread batter - same as for crumpets or pikelets - put about 1cm of veg oil in a small saucepan, and deep-fry slices of vegan sausage and mushrooms. It makes a very cheap meal - one sausage and 2 mushrooms are enough for me - along with either some bought chips from the chippy or some oven chips.
Absolutely delicious - with a hint of the forbidden about them!
I make enough for two meals - they crisp up lovely in the frying pan!
Next time I do them I'll do a calorie count for the recipe forum.
