Moogie, yes, scales are definitely recommended. I don't eat meat anymore, but when I did, when I was on Weight Watchers, I would weigh my meat on a scale. If I wanted to use 1/2 lb. in a recipe instead of a pound I would weigh out 8 ounces instead of 16 ounces.
The last Weight Watchers food scale I bought measured in grams as well as ounces, because even though the U.S. still uses ounces, we were told gram measurements were the most accurate!
I wish there were universal measurements from country to country, and I actually do like grams better than our American ounces.
