Mediterranean/Greek cookbooks
23 Apr 2013, 06:59
Love Mediterranean (esp. Greek  ) food so much and want to try and get my family into this way of eating but need a good cookbook to start me off!

Any recommendations?
Been trawling through Amazon & there's so many my head is spinning!
We too enjoy Greek food more than anything, my husband does most of our Greek food cookery We have loads of books but I suppose those we use most are Vefas Kitchen published by PHAIDON and Food From Many Greek Kitchens Tessa Kiros. They are both large books and we can find most things we need in these two. Its like all cookery books though you tend to do two or three things out of each book you have, and stick to the same things! Hope this helps.
I'm going to write a cookbook in a couple of years. Can it wait? ;-)

Seriously, please don't cook like Vefa. She is the laugh of Greek cooks. I could check which Greek cooks wrote books in English and recommend them if you want...
A couple of FREE Amazon books to download to get you started:

The Mediterranean Diet: Your Complete Guide to Eating Healthy and Shedding the Pounds Fast! by Katrina Abiasi

18 Greek recipes - the nutritional value of the Mediterranean Sustainable Gastronomy by Dimitris Bertzeletos, Kathy Vamvouka, Panagiotis Varagiannis
OK, I took a quick look, here are some worth-buying, IMO:
http://www.greekshops.com/detail.aspx?P ... 9601404035
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Greek-Chefs-the ... 9963949029
https://greekamerica.site-ym.com/store/ ... id=1370364 and her other book, Argyro's Cooking/Simple Delicious Recipes

Also, if you can find anything by Dina Nikolaou or Helen Psychoulis, I highly recommend it.
These are all books that I have checked out (I don't buy Greek cookbooks) and I know that their authors are very good cooks. I've seen many supposedly "Greek" recipe books that are as Greek as Wayne Rooney.
