A new music thread.
20 Sep 2013, 17:31
Having just heard this one again, albeit done on wine glasses instead of the usual full orchestra, I was reminded of the sometimes powerful emotions and images that classical music brings to people.

So list your favourite classical music here, with a link to a youtube rendition and tell us what images it brings to mind, or (if not too personal) a time, event or place the music is connected to.

Me first....
This one, always makes me think of chilly spring evenings, wrapped up nice and warm, walking home through the fields with daffodils nodding their heads in the sunshine. Looking forward to a warm fire in a snug warm home at the end of the walk.

I do have an ulterior motive as I am trying to get a classical collection together for listening to in the car and I am useless at the names and titles of classical music. This thread, I hope will rectify my ignorance.

OH and I like to do the occasional waltz. A nice classical one is O Mio Babbino Caro from Puccini's comic opera Gianni Schichi (sp?) I chose this one by Mara Callas because the tempo is better for dancing (faster) than the usual.

This one is great that I just discovered. I never watch this type of show--maybe I'm missing something!

I love anything by Leroy Anderson (he wrote Sleighride and many other short classical pieces). Here's one of my faves: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CM6bxhaxeBs

I also really like baroque music - Bach, Telemann, Vivaldi and Pachelbel, classical composers Mozart and Haydn also.

Dvorak Serenade for Strings Op.22. About the first 4 and a half minutes. Reminds me of early autumn mornings in England. The sun rising through the mist over the recently harvested crops and the leaves gently turning gold and red and a faint smell of bonfires in the air. Ahhh :worship: :worship: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ah14jOLKnSs

From one of my favorite TV shows of all time, music by one of my favorite composers. In case you are curious, it is the Prelude from the B flat major Partita, played by Glenn Gould if I am not mistaken.

and something do-able (hopefully!) for an adult beginner from my favorite composer for solo piano, Schumann: http://youtu.be/pDJHbyEdJbI

This is Mignon, from Album for the Young (Op.68, no. 35).

Mine is Clair de Lune by Debussy. I walked down the aisle to it, so it holds a lot of sentiment to me.

My first taste of classical music was with Disney's Fantasia when I was about 5 years old. So I chose something from it, The Nutcracker from Tchaïkovsky

And in another note, there is also The Winter(4 seasons) from Vivaldi

And the New Year's concert I watch every January 1st. I chose Karajan in
1987, the first I ever watched, with Strauss - Radetzky March which is always the last one in these concerts. Just listenning to it now gives me the chill

Sorry I couldn't choose just one

This is a great thread idea! I have a favourite piece - this is from the soundtrack to The English Patient (composed by Gabriel Yared).
