All work and a bit of play!
11 Dec 2013, 19:33
In common with most in the food industry, I'm full on before Christmas, making, selling, making up orders etc. There is only me, so there's no slacking!
But today, I had a little light relief - and I loved it!

The Welsh food centre was running a course today on 'edible gifts' and yours truly was leading the morning part. 9 ladies had enrolled to make Fig Salami, Preserved lemons, Oranges in Brandy and Cranberry chutney. We were busy, busy for 3 hours, chatting, chopping and chutneying. A journo from the local rag was there, so lots of arty photos were taken!

In the afternoon, another local artisan was leading her part of the course and, because I successfully managed to loiter long enough, I got to be included! What fun it was!

We made chocolate truffles, tempered chocolate trees, lollypops, fun chocolate marshmallows and lots more.

We had chocolate on our hands, on our faces, on our aprons, on the worktops and... well, you get the picture!

And, oh boy, did we all enjoy it!

I feel energised by doing something completely different and hub is on about making wooden hampers for us to fill for the rellies... read that as him to make the boxes and me to make the edible goodies!!

I was so tired, but alive, when I got home, that we have wandered out to the 'local' for our evening meal, something we haven't done for months.

And do I care about what I ate today? Not a jot! For tomorrow is a fast day!

So the message that I want to convey is... do something different for a day!

Make chutney, make chocolates, make friends! I guarantee you'll have a great day and feel fab (if tired!) at the end of it. I'm off to put my feet up now!!

Sounds like a wonderful time! Glad you had a wonderful day.

Perhaps I should do something different today too? Maybe I'll see what's hidden in the dust of my house  or maybe I'll just stay here and see what wonderful things my forum friends are doing? ;)

Good on you Penny sounds like we missed a great day. Wonderful choice of recipes. Can the fig salami recipe be shared.

I concur we need to slip in some fun. My yesterday was good too as went out for a lovely lunch with some dear friends and took along a 'death by chocolate' & cream concoction. We had a lovely time exchanged gifts and today I am so grateful I can squeeze in a fast day.

Now the crazy rush resumes.

@PennyForthem sounds a fab day - and you're so right re the 'do something different' thing. Can't be repeated often enough. :like:

Only sorry not near enough to join in ... Maybe it should be on the 'menu' if we ever get round to having a Forum convention, Meetup or conference??

Sounds like great fun @PennyForthem That reminds me can I ask a bit of advise please from you and anyone who has a moment. I have been trawling the net looking for some nice, reasonably priced hampers for my mum and in laws for Xmas, got a bit confused and gave up. Recommendations is what I need really about £50 if free postage.

@carieoates

I'd really suggest making up your own hamper, if you can get to a decent local farm shop. You can chose the things you know the recipients like (artisan cheese, chutney, chocs, biscuits for cheese, pate etc) and then the shop will put it all together for you, finishing it off professionally.

If you can't get out to a farm shop, try one of the many artisan companies, like Patchwork Pate,
http://www.patchwork-pate.co.uk/product ... y/hampers/
or a bespoke Hamper company.

Good luck!

Thanks Penny, I wish I'd sorted this out before my op. Anyhow, I'm now looking at small companies, rather than the big high street ones which come up on google.

I had a lot of fun just reading your post. I'm excited to do something different, I know what you mean about doing something different to energise.
I might pull out my scrapbooking to get that feeling.
Glad you had a great day, feels awesome.
