Anyone for art? :-)
18 Aug 2013, 20:36
Hello fasters!

I was at work today toodling around as you do when you are a visitor assistant in an art gallery  and it got me thinking, do any if you lovely ladies and gentlemen of course  have any interest in art? At the moment we have a fab new exhibition, Lowry and the painting of Modern life, and providing i am at work of course i can let you in, can get complementary tickets too, so if you find yourself near or around Millbank in London come to the Tate! Just ask for me and i'll be there
Just a thought, i love Lowry's work but i am also a big fan of Whistler( doing a short talk on one of his painting soon  ) and other british artists..

Anyway if anyone is interested let me know! :victory:

Hey Angie - coming down to London next month, so may take you up on that offer :like:  :victory:
I was last down there in February, when I saw the Picasso exhibition at the Courtauld galleries, and last year the Hockney at the RA. Haven't been to Tate for a long time though ...

Hi Angie,
Thank you for your wonderful offer... I would love to see this exhibition and I would make a trip to Milbank happily to spend some time knowing about Lowry. And of course I very much appreciate a complimentary ticket if it is possible.

There were some references to his works last year on one of BBC's documentaries and that stayed with me. I enjoy modern Art, and Tate Galleries are some of my favourites, and I believe we are simply fortunate to be in London and be able to visit them.

My treat of the year was earlier this year when I was lucky enough to be in Basel, Switzerland. I happened to be there during the Basel Art Fair. For me, one of the main highlights of being in Basel was the chance to view the Exhibition: "Picassos Are Here!" There were many private collections of his masterpieces on display. It was a real treat.

When you are giving your talk - Will you be giving a talk on Lowry's also? Please let me know!

Cheers

Oh wow, angie90465, what an offer. We saw last year’s Pre-Raphaelites but haven’t made London so far this year.

Hope I don’t spoil the party by saying I’m not too impressed by Lowry, but always happy to listen to anyone talking enthusiastically about what they like.

For those of certain age I can recommend Saga’s ‘Great Art in the North West’ that included a trip to the Lowry Gallery at Salford. Worth a google. And if anyone finds themselves in Cologne their Modern Art ‘Museum’ is well worth a visit.

As someone who spent half a lifetime lecturing/teaching in further education, it’s always nice to find someone doing a proper level of preparation for a presentation.

All the best to you.
