This interesting article just cropped up on my facebook newsfeed:

http://www.aeonmagazine.com/being-human ... esity-era/

It considers the wider factors that may contribute to weight gain, and the fact that even lab animals have gotten fatter over the years...
We and the animals in our care are victims of science and overconsumerism. For the most part it's about what you put in your mouth. Whether it's excessive food and drink or the quality of our food sources I am still on the fence. If you were to eat according to the American Food Pyramid would be eating too much. It has made me fat as my body cannot handle all the recommended grains. if you eat all the processed foods from the grocery store you are eating food laced with chemistry. If you eat whole food, what about all the genetically altered seed and feeds? If you thought about you would be afraid to eat. I see this as a post WW11 problem when farms were overtaken by big business and the manufacture of convenience food overtook our lives. Somehow we must get back to the family farm and cooking our own simple food.
