Every winter, this current one included always brings black mould to my cistern, that part that holds water for flushing via the the plumbing and tap.

Its so ugly, I dont want to buy a new cistern, can't think of a more tedious job. Every chemical and detergent under the sun, ( what sun) haven't seen it in a while, has not removed the black mould that is now part of the cistern.

Each year is worse than the previous. Bleach, domestos does nothing to moves it.
I have even dabbed heavy duty thick paste stuff on it, now part of the plastic, not budging.

If I wash it down, can I paint plastic over to mask the black mould and have new surface of white? I hope so.

I would have thought that was possible but you would need to get a specialist paint for it, I think. Your local DIY shop should be able to advise you, good luck

Hi @Zamale, have you tried clove bud oil. I and many Aussies clean their showers and bathrooms with diluted clove bud oil. Your local chemist shop should have it, or online is how I bought mine. The dilution I use is 1 teaspoon clove bud oil to 500 mls there a bouts of water. I don't know if it will work on your cistern, but it's worth a try. Spray it on, leave it to dry, gently scrub and rinse off.

Don't know about plastic, but if you paint normal surfaces that have had mould on them you need to paint with a mould inhibitor first.

Ha! You probably already know this. I forgot you're an Aussie too.

@chinchin You bought it all back to me, bought a special bottle of clove oil, used straight did nothing, used diluted did nothing. Couldn't think of it before, sprayed it also on the back of heavy curtains put in the sun to kill the mould also,did nothing.

I'll go to bunnings or masters, see what they come up with, without replacing the cistern.
