Christmas trees
29 Oct 2014, 08:19
I've just read on Fb that people have put their trees up already! It's still October isn't it? I haven't slept a month away? We don't put ours up until about 12th of December.

Here, you can find Christmas chocolates in the shops since the beginning of October. And the lights are already out in the streets for 2 or 3 weeks now. I won't put my decorations before the 1st December

About a week befor Christmas is early enough for me, in fact as long as my tree is up and decorated before the Strictly Come Dancing final night, last Saturday before Christmas, then I am happy with that as I have a big party then for all my female friends. The decorations start to come down the day after Boxing Day, a bit each day til by Hogmany it's all gone, can't stand to see them around the house in January. What a Scrooge I am

'Scuse language!
We have a fresh tree so it doesn't go up till just before Christmas. Unlike@ballerina I am reluctant to see it go so it stays up till 12th night.

Ours goes up on the first weekend of December, we make mulled wine and some low cal mince pies (filo pastry and a teaspoon of mincemeat) and make a day of it, decorating the house. It all comes down the weekend before 12th night, that's more than enough imo

I always have a big fresh tree-BUT this year we have the poodle pup and I doubt if we will remember to keep him and the tree apart, and he deconstructs anything he can find, so I am not sure what to do- need something for Santa to leave the grandchildren's presents under though!

We took two grandsons visiting a local garden centre today where one section is all hallow'een and another larger section is all Christmas decorations. They enjoyed it and thankfully didn't feel the need to buy any of it!
Our tree goes up mid December with a model train running around its base. It's cleared away New Years Day.
Our cat is far too interested in exploring it all!

We're away for Christmas so I might not bother this year. We normally get a fresh one but its a lot of bother when we're not here. Will also save a lot of mess.
We usually put ours up a week or two before.

@merlin try the tree inside a baby play pen. Worked well at keeping our tots and puppy off the tree
