Did you have a good Christmas?
29 Dec 2013, 12:09
Well back home after being away for Christmas which was a very enjoyable event. But yes I have been brave & weighed myself & have gained 4lbs in weight, which is not too bad considering all the wine & delicious nibbles I ate. Food wise it was fairly sensible with no Christmas pudding, mince pies or cream but quite a few chocolates were consumed & lots of delicious scallops, prawns & chicken.
It had been such a long time since my OH & I had not hosted Christmas at home that it was a real change for us venturing forth on Christmas Eve to drive to London with a packed car full of presents, a combination microwave ( an extra oven to help with cooking ), & food & wine. We headed down the A24 but were turned back by police just north of Dorking because of flooding from the a River Mole & backtracked following our nose through tree lined narrow roads passing many fallen trees that fortunately had been removed to the side of the road, flooded fields & one car in a side road half submerged. We eventually found our way west of Leatherhead at Bookham & managed to rejoin the A24 to join the heavy traffic to near Wandsworth Common where our eldest son lives. That evening to ate out in a local French Bistro, another first for us on Christmas Eve because I am usually preparing food, & then it was Christmas Day. Our other son & his partner arrived & presents were exchanged & opened to much hilarity because they were all surprise gifts. I will at some point be learning how to ride a segue!! We then had delicious food of Coquille St Jacques & individual poussin to eat. Then on Boxing Day we went via taxi to our other sons & his partner where she had worked very hard to feed us with more delicious food & snacks while we rather lazily watched the film Ben Hur & then after lunch watched Skyfall. It was a very hedonistic few days eating & drinking much with not any exercise & not a recommended way to behave but relaxing & enjoyable.
Well back to routine & reality with a vengeance & we realise how fortunate we were not to be flooded out, or having lost power like so many others in the UK & being able to spend Christmas with our loved ones & eat hot Christmas food.
I hope that the majority of you were able to have an enjoyable Christmas & that your New Year will be a prosperous, healthy, slimmer & happy one.
With best wishes
Margaret xxx
Sounds like you had a lovely, easy time after a bit of adventure. My Christmas was very quiet, only 7 for dinner at my Mom's. Very small gathering considering I have 5 brothers and 2 sisters and all have children and grandchildren!

My hope for all my forum friends is a wonderful, prosperous, adventurous New Year. :drink:
Sounds wonderful. Would like to see a pic of you on the segue :like: :like: :like:
I was in London too,Isis! Had a wonderful time thank you..glad yours was lovely too x
 @isis That sounds a perfect Christmas to me we've had a quiet but enjoyable few days, only a little bit manic xmas morn that was soon calmed down, I'm sure loads of us can't wait to get a proper fast in probably tomorrow.
I managed a semi fast on Friday with a 16:8 Saturday, but have failed miserably today got the munchies and now don't feel like eating yet, so a willing fast for me tomorrow
A lovely peaceful Christmas here, which is astounding considering that two of my children are on the Autistic Spectrum.

I had to actually MAKE a table for Christmas, and not form a kit either. So that was done, spare chairs were dug out of bedrooms and two from the garden. Its a good job my son is tall as the garden chairs were a bit low. Anyone smaller could have just slid the food in direct from the table top.

We had 3 sets of visitors this year and had lovely meals and long chats with them all.

Present wise we all had presents that caused a lot of hugs etc. One of my favourites is the Covent Garden Soup book, a soup for every day of the year.

The usual Christmas gorging hasn't happened this year. We still have masses of food left and probably won't need to shop for anything other than fresh vegetables and milk for close to a month.

The Celebrations haven't stopped yet though, we also had our Wedding Anniversary meal out and we will be going to a New years/ farewell party too. Then another birthday and farewell party in January too. I may yet get the Christmas eaten.
