Happy mothers day! Its mothers day here in Australia.
I need advice. Last night we went out and my 6 foot tall 17 year old son was playing silly bugger's with his cousins, jumped over a fence and landed badly and hurt the edge of his foot. My pharmacist BIL said to rest,Ice,Elevate, and raise and if its no better today get to doc. I think it may be broken. Do I take him to emergency and spend all day there and end up with what he needs? Probably Xrays and maybe a cast ( which is what a good mother would do) and miss our mothers day much and relaxing etc) or so I pop to the chemist get some bandages ,strap him up,continue with RICE first aid , rent him a crutch and go to the lunch then see doc have xrays tomorrow ( I'm not working tomorrow) thanks in advance for your help. Hubbies in Washington.

Happy Mothers Day.
@Maggiee that sounds lovely.
@julianna, oh dear. Typical that it's Mother's Day and hubby is away. Why do kids hurt themselves at the most inconvenient time. I hope it all goes ok for you, a day at Nepean Emergency is not fun.
I'm having a lovely quiet day, I saw my Mum on Friday. Son is still asleep and daughter is coming up to visit in a while. So I can just sit and recover from our 70's themed dinner party last night. :grin:

Hi @Julianna, bummer! Can he put weight on it at all? I would say RICE today - Rest, Ice ( 20 minutes every 2 hours for first 72 hours, quite miraculous!), compression, elevation above level of the heart. Tell him he can play video games all day today, that should keep him still!

Then GP tomorrow! Don't feel guilty! Try to enjoy your day!!

Thanks @lovemyparrot @Wineoclock and @jools7 for your help and advice.
Well son has woken up since then. Swelling has gone down a lot since last night but still swollen. He can put a bit of weight on it Jools. He thinks he's just jarred it,not broken it so that's good. He on the crutches now so we can still go out to lunch. We're going to Rachays at Penrith Wineoclock. My family love that place. Have you tried it? It's near toys r us. Also thanks booksabout the specific RICE advice. I sdidn't realize it was only 20 mins every 2 hours. That's doable! Happy mothers day and sorry to lead this thread astray but who better to ask advice from than you lovely people.
P.s. and I'm not going to feel guilty either when I escape to our weekender at Lawson ( Blue Mountains)this arvo for a night ALL BY MYSELF!!!!! :grin: :victory: :wink:

@julianna, I haven't been to Rachays, I'll keep it in mind. I'm glad the day is going well for you and escaping sounds good. I'll make do with a nanna nap :smile:
Well daughter has come to visit, eaten our food, used our washing machine and dryer and then left again :lol: Son has given me CDs and DVDs of stuff he likes (lucky I like them too) :lol: :lol: Just spending the afternoon watching Doris Day movies, the perfect Mother's Day I reckon.
