Layers, lots of layers...

Did a race in Miami a few years ago asking the locals how they delt with the +80% humidity. They asked: "What humidity?"

They were shocked when I said that I'd gone out for a training run two days before, leaving the house at 7 degrees and getting back home at 11.

I had more 'personal' insulation then.
Sorry for not responding. I make a post and then take off for 2 days with my iPad with me but not my password.
Now I am at home ans still using iPad as hubby hogs the PC majorly. Loading his many hundred bird photos on view bug. I may be waiting all night.
Where I was was up north toward the upper of Victoria, 2 degrees warmer than Ballarat where I live. The lounge filled with smoke, it was leaking out of the flu that takes the smoke to the chimney, so then we had to open windows and have a fan sucking out smoke. The top chimney was blocked. It's getting bit warmer in the house.
It is fascinating finding out how others keep warm where climates vary greatly.

Thanking for posting, most interesting
Your hubby a bird watcher is he Zamale? So am I!
Oh now I'm jealousy because you have BEAUTIFUL birds out there don't you xx
Sydney has suddenly experienced the cold.. thus picture me in my warm socks, shoes and woollen beany. Only way to go. Who needs heating.
You can always rely in a beany!

@Debs. @nursebean if you love birds take a look at view bug online and lookup TrevJel. Husband is always loading his bird photos and nature photos, he is getting good too.
Do you photograph birds or watch them?
I'm in a beany with eyes and ears right now, with a very cold nose
Just watch them Zamale. I shall have a look. You are in northern Vic then?
Lovely pics and one of you!!
Oh my word, what beautiful photos! I love the black and white bird with a splash of yellow. Just stunning. And the one with you on a bench, colour one side and black and white on the other. Very clever!

I'm now a follower of Trevjel xx
By the way, is that your dog in the photo? So clever to capture his running strides. Wonderful!

Strangely not comfortable in public with a beany. I have to try to get comfortable as i hate going outside to the local store then taking off the hat. My hair inevitably is all flattened out by the beany and im looking like ime having a very bad hair day.

Got some more stylish beanish to take the plunge last year. i must do i, i must be brave to leave the beany on
Ah haw, you light weight antipodeans! Come to Ireland for some real weather. Ok, so we dont get very cold, the temp is about 10c year round. I hear the Nordics laughing with the crisp snow glinting in the background. Winter here did get to minus 13c a couple of years ago. Last summer was exceptionally at about 28c. But about 10c is the norm year round, give or take 3 or 4 degrees.

That temp is not a problem. Its the damp that gets me. The constant rain just seeps into my bones even if I stay inside. I know its going to rain because my hands and feet go cold and there is no amount to terminal (!) undies that will warm them. I sleep with jammies, bed socks, electric blanket, fleece, hubby on top and a small child under each arm pit!

Then there is the wind. No, not hubby and armpit children's wind. The type of wind that makes it difficult to open the car door, and when I do I have to hang onto to the door for dear life in case I am blown right across the cliffs to America.

That is the ultimate hangover cure! In fact, if you have ever managed to leave a west of ireland pub in the dark hours, the icy wind will sober you up fairly quickly. Either that or discovering the warm furry black cow blocking the road on the stumble home (true story that! I've never got such a fright).

And the wind with the rain together, driving the rain into your face so hard that it feels like needles. Then its damn cold, no matter what temperature it is. That is what we call a lazy wind. Its too lazy to go around you, so it cuts through you instead. Not to mention the calm days when the wind is replaced by fog. Its a damp icy fog that creeps frozen fingers down the back of your neck and up your coat sleeves. Oh dang, I'm cold just writing about it.

Here is a little Irish Meteorological Science:

That's hilarious @scubachick! I just said to hubby" we are going to Ireland! That is our sort of place!! ( for the humour more than the weather)
