laptop pointer....advice please
25 Sep 2014, 16:05
Hi,

I've had this little note pad for a year now. Its great but the pointer does jump around. I can be typing away and suddenly discover I ve been typing in a completely different area of the screen. It's a great keyboard but this trait is very frustrating. Has anyone else had this?

I've tried ticking "hide pointer" in the control panel-mouse window. Its no better.

Anyone?

TIA

David
Hi @DavidF - I'm not very technically capable so can't really help I'm afraid - I get this sometimes with my laptop so basically just have to keep an eye on where the cursor is. Hopefully someone else might have an answer.
If it were mine I'd first try a cold boot up.

If using a USB mouse (especially if wireless), disconnect it, wait 10- seconds, then reconnect; or try another USB port.

Otherwise check for hardware or software updates.
Thanks to both.

:-)
it could be the mouse touch-pad on your laptop. If it is set to sensitive just moving your hand in the air can move your pointer. I had to set mine to the lowest setting so that wouldn't happen
I thought the phantom pointer movement was someone trying to hack in? Am I wrong? Cause when it happens to me I immediately shut everything down.

In my case I think not.

Thanks for the posts....apols for tardiness.
Hi @David F, I have a Toshiba lap top and the mouse pad is super sensitive, it often makes the cursor jump to some other place on the page when I'm typing. I haven't found a way to stop it yet, just be super watchful where the cursor is before I type and don't let your fingers skim the mouse pad when you stop tying. If you find out how to correct this permanently, please share information. :geek:
I'm terrible with a touch pad, and was so excited when I found I could disable mine. So now I don't accidentally move my hand over it. I use a corded mouse instead!
