... For my Mum. She is 80, a text fiend like the Queen and her ancient Nokia is about to give up the ghost. She needs bigger number buttons, and a robust phone. Not bothered smart phone as she has iPad. Any advice gratefully received ...

There are some big button phones on the market, but I'd stick with Nokia as she knows her way around. She'll be so mesmerised and therefore frustrated if she has to learn a new format.
Maybe take her into carphone warehouse or somewhere local to you so that she can pop back in if she has any trouble.

Agree staying with same make she's used to and going
in Carphone warehouse where she can look and handle for herself, wouldn't recommend touch phone to any elderly
I have enough trouble with mine. Good Luck

ahh but the picture screen is so tiny. you can zoom in but then you only see bits of the image. i think i started Samsung versus Iphone wars lol
If she is used to an iPad then she would be fine with using an iPhone. But the samsungs are bigger. No idea what else there is out there.
My husband is a mobile phone refusnik, but I told him he needed one for emergencies so he has a Digital Tec Big Button phone on PAYGO. Big buttons, large display, loud speaker SOS feature, FM radio. It is a dumb phone, calls and texts only so perhaps not sophisticated enough for your mother, but it will do for me when my old Nokia dies. £25 on Amazon.
People rave about iphones but since I've got one I'm afraid all my messages are gibberish - obviously I have fingers like sausages but I find it a bit pants
Have you seen the Doro phones? Clear and simple, but rather boring...
My parents went off to the mobile phone shop on a similar hunt, and came back with iPhones, which they both love! However, I think she would have to be a confident iPad user to enjoy the iPhone, and it doesn't tick all the boxes she requires. It's also expensive!

Hi my mum is in her mid nineties and uses a Doro mobile phone ill check with her tomorrow what make it is exactly.
I'm not sure I have any advice for silverdarling, but for anyone struggling to type on an iPhone: try the dictation app! Just click the microphone icon next to the spacebar. It's smart; it learns your speech patterns so gets better with time. You can speak punctuation to it and it understands.
A bit of negative advice from me, I got my 86 year old Mum this phone at Christmas after she had spent some time without a phone due to a lightning strike. It really was dreadful, very complicated to use and cheap and palsticy so it went back to Amazon

I replaced it with a cheap Nokia from Argos

Many thanks for all advice - we went to carphone warehouse and after looking at several got a Doro phone, which she liked immediately cos it is black and white and matt rather than shiny with rubber buttons. Very clear backlit text, and a clamshell. They transferred her sim and contacts for her, so all good. And cost about £65 I think. Much cheaper than our visit to the White Company store ... where she bought 2 pr of skinnies - oh having a trendy 80yr old Mum is hard work
I love carphone warehouse. Deals online are good but actually talking to A Human being is often very rewarding.
Ps never heard of Dora phone. Glad she's all sorted.
