I know we have a few forum members who live in northern France and I'm looking for a bit of advice please.
We are in the throes of planning our next year's holiday and feel we have been to a lot of Northern France, but there's still a lot to explore.
We are prepared to drive up to 100 miles (160k) from a ferry port, but as it's only me that drives, plus we'll have the van in tow, we are being very strict on that.
So, can anyone recommend sights to see, sites to stay at... or places to avoid!
All suggestions most welcome!
From Caen you can drive down to Les Mans which is a very easy drive (easier than driving down to Southampton), because you don't have to negotiate Paris and it is a straight, largely empty road, especially on a week day. Les Mans is an interesting place. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/artic ... -Mans.html You could play it by ear and if you find it easy go further down to Samur and Chinon. These medieval towns are a delight and not on the usual tourist trail. This is a little far for you, but I have stayed here which is a place run by a lovely English couple and they make it feel like it is your home http://www.rantoncastle.com/#!location/c1wln. But then if you are in the caravan you won't need it!
Thank you Karen. We both love the Loire and usually stay at a site near Chambord, where we can explore on 2 wheels (being careful of the wild boar in the grounds of Chambord itself!). We find French drivers most considerate to cyclists. Feeling torn now.... Loire or North? Ah well, at least we can book the ferry and decide on destination at the last minute!
