Not sleeping,so,a question...
20 Nov 2013, 04:09
...can't sleep tonight, which has made me think of one of my favourite paintings with my favourite ever name..
It's called
Night with her Train of Stars and her Great Gift of Sleep
By Edward Robert Hughes
See below..
So my question - whats your favourite painting - doesnt have to be sleep related!

Absolutely magnificent :)
I've had a print of Van Gogh's Chaumes de Cordevillehttp://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/72/Chaumes_de_Cordeville_%25C3%25A0_Auvers-sur-Oise.JPG&imgrefurl=http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Chaumes_de_Cordeville_%25C3%25A0_Auvers-sur-Oise.JPG&h=557&w=700&sz=326&tbnid=n8XFrb7O2zo-nM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=113&zoom=1&usg=__ztUGAZRz8s8uC2aVa3AFt3gXDbs=&docid=aFsWD_08Opm48M&sa=X&ei=7DyMUtTaEJK14APbvoHQCg&ved=0CDAQ9QEwAA sitting in my living room for 13 years. I had no idea that the original was at the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, or that the painting was painted in a suburb of Paris (Auvers sur Oise). I just thought it was gorgeous and someplace I'd like to someday retire to.

I got to see both the original and the town this summer, and now I really really really want to live there.

Of course that being said, I don't know if it's my favorite painting, or if I even have a favorite painting or artist. I love Van Gogh, Cezanne, the Impressionists and the surrealists more than the older stuff though.
just one? too difficult. I love Odilon Redon: http://www.odilon-redon.org/Vase-With-F ... s---2.html

Edvard Munch's Maddona: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Edvar ... roject.jpg

David Hockney's Mount Fuji and Flowers: http://www.metmuseum.org/Collections/se ... ons/480987
Um.. Too many too think about, but wanted to wave and say Hi Candice! Hope you get back to sleep soon. I have an early start this morning. :like:

I'm hopeless!
I can't remember who painted it and who it is
BUT
I do know that it is in Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow and I was taken to see it by a friend who just knew I would love it.
It was placed around a corner and it stopped me in my tracks. The still comes nowhere near conveying the vibrance and movement in the painting.
She was right and well pleased with my reaction to it!
There are many more too.
I was blown away with the Renoirs at Le Musee D'Orcy
adore Christ of St John on the Cross - Dali (another Kelvingrove one)
and have been moved by many paintings.
There is so little culture in the sandpit that I feel deprived and as soon as I hit anywhere else, I head for a gallery.
Hope you get back to sleep soon CandiceMarie.
Lovely thread

There is so little culture in between these corn fields and soy bean fields, too. The only gallery around these parts is a Thomas Kincade gallery a couple of counties away. No favorite to add...but, wandering around the galleries in Europe is definitely on my bucket list.
