Opinions?

Hi

Your opinion(s) if you please.

Briefly, I've been offered a book shop business. I'm not (seriously) interested in taking up the offer, more on whether you think the old boy is taking for ride or its a valid offer.

Do old book sell with kindle etc around?

I was trying to decide between two books and quipped that if it was up to me I'd buy the whole lot. He replied I can have them if I buy the property.......5 bedroom Victorian town house. He's got a life collection of at least (estimated) £100K s worth of books.

He's asking £360k for the property. He's 65 and wondering how long to keep it going for (plausible enough).

Where I am at the moment, it would be madness.

Interested in thoughts though?

I think there will always be a place for books and especially 2nd hand books. There is just something about these book shops if they have a certain atmosphere which draw me in and I hardly leave without a purchase. If you are dotty about books and creative about making the atmosphere right and know how to source you supplies might be an interesting way to go.

Think you have to be über passionate, can't comment about property

About right.

Pre C19 I just wouldn't want to sell.

As I don't know what the books are and whether or not they are first edition books or rare etc and I know nothing of the property in question it's difficult to say if he's 'taking you for a ride' or not. However, some folks are mad about second hand books... my hubby is and it's VERY difficult to get him out of these places and he always buys something.....so interesting isn't it?

That's a tough one. Do your research and look at how the business has been going these last few years. I love books but probably wouldn't risk buying a book store.

The straight answer to that is that he has ....everything.

He showed me round the property yesterday. He has piles of books in his kitchen, books stacked up the stairs. In fair good sized bedrooms he has books stacked in piles....together with piotures and prints he has collected. Outside he has a largish shed (not 8x6 this is at least double that) stocked to the ceiling with boxes of books.

In asnwer to the value of the property, on the face of it (without survey) it would appear to be about right; the proximity to Telford makes it actually pretty saleable.

Interesting? It is, I'm going to talk myself into it if I'm not careful.

I don't like to think what my Mum would say.

It's a converted town house so it has intrinsic value.

All he's done is to take a fireplace out down stairs

V small garden out back, that's the only down side. Straight onto the main road out side, 2 mins from the town centre.

Ho hum.. :?:
