Poppies
05 Aug 2014, 17:29
I have just ordered a poppy from the 'Tower of London Poppy Moat' website, not sure when it will arrive, presumably some time in November when the display is dismantled. Anyone else interested in them can google the above site and they cost £25 plus £5.95 postage and packaging. Not cheap but they were all made in Derbyshire by hand and 10% of monies raised goes to charities, the rest of the money reflects the cost of production. I hope they sell them all, I'm sure they will.

It's a lovely display - I saw pictures and would love to see it in person.

I have also just placed an order. Such a beautiful and unusual memorial to those who gave their lives in the Great War.

I'm going to London next weekend, so hope to go and see it. I didn't realise you could buy one, though, so thanks for that info Ballerina.

It is strange because I was watching the royals 'plant' theirs and thought it would be a nice idea if you could buy them afterwards and then I saw an article about it and how to go about buying them. They are made in Derby, round the corner from a pub we sometimes frequent called, appropriately enough,'the Flower Pot' and we know one of the artists working on them. She has been making them for months now and will continue through til the display is complete in November and needless to say she is absolutely bored with the sight of poppies. She says she has no idea how many thousands she has now made but is happy to be doing such a worthwhile thing even if she never wants to see another poppy as long as she lives after this

Oh isnt that an amazing idea...
So lovely that these tributes, remembrances etc are happening..
I took part in the 10 pm to 11 pm Put The Lights Out thing...we lit tons of candles and had some in the window, others down in the garden on Monday night.
The downside of all this, is that wars continue to rage everywhere while we are remembering how,one hundred yrs ago,the " Great War" began
Wasnt that supposed to be " the war that ends all wars'?
Thanks Bal@Ballerina for the heads up about the ceramic poppies..i hadnt heard about it x
Near where i live, hundreds of poppies have been planted on some wasteland....looks magnificent...
