R.I.P. Robin Williams
12 Aug 2014, 00:30
The world is now a sadder place without the brilliance and charm of Robyn on stage, on film and whenever he was in the public eye. In the words of Steve Martin in his condolensce message online, he was a Mensch (someone to admire and emulate, someone of noble character. )

If only he could have got through his depression. I think we have all been there at some stage or know someone who has been there and thankfully in most situations, our desire for the sheer joy of life, of the love of family and friends and and of all the beautiful aspects of our life on this planet wins over that "black dog" that visits from time to time.

R.I.P. Robin Williams.
a classic.

I quite agree with everything you have said. Am so very sad to think he took his own life.

The "black dog" has a lot to answer for.....and respects no-one. Just goes to show that we never know what other people are really going through, do we?

Used to absolutely love "Mork & Mindy".....and only a couple of week's ago I sat down with my two daughters to introduce the youngest to Mrs Doubtfire.....which she loved.

Oh dear, am shocked and saddened

I have never been keen on him tbh, but isn't it interesting that genius such as his is accompanied by depression in the background? There are so many examples of the manic personality that veers so violently between extremes; Spike Milligan and Steven Fry are two examples of genius (manic in Spike's case) that accompany depression.

Thank you @Juliana.Rivers you have said it all perfectly. I've always loved Robin Williams humour, how sad that he could be so funny and yet so sad. I hope he can finally be happy and peaceful.

Very sad for him and his family but I've never been able to watch him. I found that level of mania made me uncomfortable.

Oh no! Just woken up to read your messages. I had no idea! Oh thats a real shock. How awful. We're losing so many people lately aren't we. Some of you won't have heard of Mike Smith but he was a big part of my childhood. He died recently. Really young too.

So sad

It seems the majority of comedians actually struggle with depression don't they. And yes, Robin was really manic at times wasn't he.

Very sad

Oh@nursebean I was upset about Mike Smith too as he did the breakfast show on radio one when I was young. My friends met him and Sarah Greene a few times as he raced cars and they were Marshalls.
As for Robin Williams I feel so sad. I have only cried once before over the death of someone in the public eye and that was Jim Henson and now Robin Williams is on that list.

It always gets me when the Oscars have their obituries bit. Its so sad how many famous bods die each year.

I cried when John Thaw died. It still makes me sad when I watch Morse. He WAS Morse wasn't he.

Was so sorry to catch this on the news last nigt
Loved him from Mork and Mindy onwards...specially loved him in Good Morning Vietnam - so funny
Its very sad that people who are so talented and who enjoy fame and fortune can still find life too difficult to bear.
RIP Robin Williams x and Mike Smith ..
@Brand-ieand @nursebean..I too was sad about his passing at only 59..reminds me so much of Saturday morning Tv when my daughter was small.

Following on from @brand-ies remark about crying over a famous person's passing..
I burst into tears when i heard that George Harrison died..i went to the vigil that was held for him and queued for ages afterwards to write a tribute to him in a book that was given to Olivia. I think his last words,Love One Another, are very touching.
John Lennon's shocking death went over my head a bit..i had a new baby that never slept, and i was like a zombie. Every time i see him on film now or hear him sing, i feel sad that he's gone.
I now live next door to a place where John lived as a young man,and i enjoy seeing the tourists come...even more so i enjoy imagining George coming to visit..George will always be my Best Beatle! X

I wasn't a big fan of his funny stuff but the kids love Mrs Doubtfire etc. My fav film is Good will hunting and I love him in that but it was a very straight role. It showed what a great actor he was. He will be forever loved, such a shame that in the end nobody noticed him missing for a few days. So sad. R.I.P Robin.

I felt very sad when I heard about Robin Williams. Suicide is such a tragedy, whoever it is.

My best friend from schooldays lost her son in his mid 20s, totally unexpected. My uncle committed suicide. My elder son suffers from anxiety and took a (luckily small) overdose a couple of years ago, but I now am ever fearful for his well being. He rarely shows his emotions and although he says he is fine and he seems to be, one just never knows.

I cried over Princess Diana and Im not even a royal supporter. (from Australia of course)
Myself and OH even set up a site about her withing the hour after the death and published it. Early days of the net and we were inundated by contributions. Believe we were the first. Pre facebook and twitter time and the ISP, a local dude's server went into meltdown
