Re: sciatica- self induced

Thanks @peebles
I am learning that I can wait it out and not run to a chiro, they have milked me plenty in the past. I would go to a therapy that was more gentle.

I really appreciate your advice on how to go about it.

I hope you are feeling better with no more sciatica flare up. Could mine have been sciatica on such a short time. I am feeling more better now Monday from Friday.

Thanks @CandiceMarie I went to the waterfalls, though painful, Ibuprofen spaces me, but I still had them, they helped. Waterfall are so soothing and beneficial to my mind and body.
I hope you are not dealing with sciatica. I am going to try and get flexible if its not too late. I am seizing up now that I am looking 50 in the face. My pillow is the pits and dont know how to get a good neck one, so much trial and error and horrid horrid neck headaches. Oh the joys. Sorry for whining, just wish I could surrender to what is.

Your post is really helpful @loversghost I agree with everything you say and I have put it to good use. Feeling better from Friday, though now Monday, could that be sciatica over 4 days? Only slightly pain in the leg, most severe was the last vertebrae just before the buttocks.

I hope with everything you've been through, you are at a place free of sciatica pain.

Thanks, I am going to look up the links you put up. Do you like the wedge cushion @Marybeth
I did the buttock stretch the first night of severe pain on Friday night and am mostly out of pain now on Monday night, coincidence, dont know, but I like the stretches.
Am so grateful it is relatively short lived pain.

Yes @zamale I like it very much. I keep one on the sofa with other cushions to support the back. The other mulligan cushion is on my desk chair. When going on longish car trips, I use the wedge cushion and the McKenzie lumbar support cushion together: http://www.amazon.com/OPTP-Original-McK ... B000GPS7NG

At one point, I couldn't sit in the car for more than 5 minutes without pain. Car seats seem to be made with the hips lower than the knees, just the opposite of what is needed.

Hope you find some solution.

I have Piriformis syndrome. I've had it in both legs though not at the same time. My right leg gives me most grief. It starts with a spot on my buttocks which feels like an electrified red hot poker has been inserted. The pain travels down my thigh and calf till it gets to the outside of my foot which goes quite numb. Hard to get out of the car as I can't tell if my foot is flat on the ground. I tend to roll my ankle because of it. A friend of mine broke her leg when she had the same problem. My doc prescribed Diclofenac which is an anti-inflammatory and a series of torture, um I mean, visits with the physiotherapist. She did some heavy duty manipulation which brought tears to my eyes but did help. I had stretching exercises to do at home and on the last visit she gave me some acupuncture. She also prescribed gentle walking.

@Zamale, you can get 5 sessions of physiotherapy courtesy of Medicare. Just have to get your GP to prescribe it.

I find the hard, flat chairs that often appear in coffee shops start me off. Now as soon as I feel the burning pain start, I do my exercises. Probably should do them daily but I tend to forget once the pain goes.
