I've known for years that I can't tolerate sorbitol. When they first brought out sugar-free mints, I discovered that the "warning: excessive consumption can have a laxative effect" worked for me if I ate more than one. One mint, that is, not a packet... so I've steered clear. I don't have a problem with sugar-free drinks - like Diet Coke - not that I drink them any more but it would seem I don't have a problem with aspartame!! Typical!!! I've been using Splenda for the past few months, with no problems but recently read how bad it is so I thought I'd swap to Stevia as everyone is raving about how "natural" it is and that it doesn't spike your blood sugar. Bought a pot of Truvia yesterday and had the cravings for some stewed apple (Bramleys) and blackberries, which I ate after my lunch AND my tea, with a small teaspoon of Truvia in. All evening and through the night I have had a bloated, gassy belly and to be frank, I've farted like a trooper! The only thing I ate different yesterday was the Truvia so now I'm wondering whether I'm also sensitive to that. I've not been able to find anything online about a Stevia insensitivity so I was just wondering whether anyone else suffers.

(This morning I had plain old sugar in my porridge.... s@d it!!! )
Same problem! Made me really poorly for about 3 days. Had to take Buscopan to get rid of the colic. Its not stevia as such, its the filler they use to bulk out the powder. I've been told that the tablets are OK or the liquid but personally I've never tried either after my escapade with the powder!

If I use anything its a small amount of Splenda. I avoid aspartame because of its bad rep with FMS. I'm never sure about how much is just scare mongering with sweeteners.
I am with Izzy I stick with really little amounts of honey. I tried stevia and hated it. Also tried agave and it seemed the one I was pleased but just slunk back to while I keep on minimising honey but use it if I want something sweetened a tad
