This is interesting!

"One McDonald's Big Mac contains 540 calories, 29 grams of fat, and more than 40 grams of highly-processed, blood-sugar-spiking carbohydrates.

And that doesn't even count the fries and soft drink that you KNOW you're going to order with it.

At the same rate, here are a few alternative food choices and amounts that will land you at the same 540 calories:

140 medium strawberries
5 medium bananas
1 QUART of plain Greek yogurt
14 oz of grilled chicken breast
17 cups of broccoli
6 and 1/2 cups of blueberries

Better yet, go ahead and eat ALL of this in one sitting:

4 oz of grilled chicken (120 cals)
3 cups of broccoli (90 cals)
1 medium banana (100 cals)
8 oz of plain Greek yogurt (130 cals)
10 medium strawberries (40 cals)
1/2 cup of blueberries (40 cals)

So basically, you have an OVERFLOWING plate of chicken and veggies and then a HUGE dessert of yogurt and fruit. I mean, that's a massive quantity of food right there. In fact, most people wouldn't even be able to finish it.

And guess what? It still contains fewer calories than ONE Big Mac and it's WAY healthier.

Simply put, you don't have to starve yourself (at all) to lose weight and shed those stubborn pounds...you just need to learn how to choose the right foods, and then eat your heart out."
Completely agree. Fill up on a big meal of healthy goodness. However, we know there'll be plenty of people who would rather use their 500 fasting day allowance on a Big Mac than a nutritious meal. Sad but there you go. I think many people don't understand or appreciate the value of vitamins, anti oxidants, fibre etc. They see a calorific value and that is all.
But don't you think that all the stuff that is fast food and processed tastes remarkably the same? I was reading a thing on Mark's Daily Apple where he said just that and I realised he was right - I like the THOUGHT of fries and burgers and stuff but whenever I've caved and had some, the reality doesn't live up to the promise. And it leaves a weird taste in my mouth too. I never thought I'd say this but I LIKE eating things from the 'healthy' list above. Not saying I'm perfect - I still struggle not to eat bread sometimes BUT I wouldn't swap back from how I eat now.
Absolutely!!! And your food tastes so much better!

I also think that if you want a burger and fries, you can make a version at home with real ingredients and no unnatural additives. It will taste far better and be much healthier.
I was only saying to someone the other day how McDonalds never come out like they look in the pictures on the menu! Haven't had a burger for ages but what I would say is that at least with this WOE if you get an absolute craving for one at least you can have it and get it out of your system! I think when you get as mindful as what you are putting into your body as we tend to though you just don't want all those nasties any more!
I havent had any McDonalds stuff for more than twenty years..they do a good cup of tea tho!
I was always hungry quickly after their burger and chips, and i now know it's coz there was no nutrition in them..and thinking back @loversghost i can remember the taste..and it WAS weird
@Tracieknits so true..can make own much more appetising and more nutritious burger n chips ( oven chips or wedges)
Xx
Thanks for the very interesting list Candy @CandiceMarie
I mindfully avoided all fast food outlets today in town having a leisurely shopping trip alone (nice for a change)
You know why I intended to avoid ALL?
I weighed myself this morning again coz as I told you I only had a 4 hour eating window yesterday but admitted to putting quite a bit of food away in those hours and wanted to see
what damage I'd done
Well I was the same as yesterdays tracker updated data, that along with the Tesco BBQ chicken in the fridge swung a well behaved day for me, yes I went for coffee all 3 of them plus a soda water before going home feeling very riotous and
somewhat full.
Massive salad with my chicken at 6pm and I suppose some would say maybe classed as fast food but far better than the Mac/d
I always make my own burgers out of steak mince mostly chilli burgers and last week I put jalapeños into plain ones for a tasty change love my own burgers far nicer than any you can buy,
trouble with getting them so good is I get roped in to make them for other family members too.  Sue
No @Sue.Q i wd never class chicken and salad as fast food..sounds great to me x
Your homemade burgers sound good! Hey maybe we can put in our orders?!
Did you buy anything today ya little shopaholic? Any bargains / non clothes shopping etc etc etc ?
I bet she does@julianna! She's such a goody two shoes! x

Theyre quite nice within two big lettuce leaves! X
Haha @CandiceMarie. I was sending you a reply on your other thread at the same time you are sending me one! What time is it over there? Its early Sunday morning here 6.49 am. I woke at 6 am and started thinking about work :frown: so i came on the forum. Have to look up a roast lamb recipe for lunch but i cant get off this forum! Im wanting the lamb to fall off the bone or be able to be pulled apart with 2 forks. :victory:
Maybe @SallyO can help me.ill see if i can find her side of lamb thread.
Xxx
@julianna Mostly a goody two shoes and bunless but occasionally one very small bun with one burger on top of each half plus large salad, I've never been a bread lover just a
bread eater ( convenience food) so my moto now is why eat something I don't really enjoy plus its wasted calories.
But @Candicemarie the lettuce leaf wraps just don't do anything for me either not tried with burgers though only ham.

Coz if I was I'd be in between 10 + 11 stone by now
Thanks Candie Marie
I had a lazy day with hubby yesterday and we went to Hungy Jacks (burgers like MacDonalds). A rare visit .
In the afternoon we had our first taste of summer 32oC! Felt lethargic and also had this desire to eat.
So knowing that I had had burger(small), fries(small) coke and their sundae (which is a treat to me), I decided that I would eat some fruit. The craving for more food went. So YES as you say, it seriously and certainly isn't a healthy food. About 97% of the time I make everything at home, but sometimes when one hasn't eaten at these places for a while, one succoms and then remembers why they don't eat there. No lasting fullness or goodness to the food. I shall be coping your burger and chicken menu(?) from your posting and showing others just how much one can have of REAL
food and how satisfying that is. Bye bye Hungry Jacks. I shall certainly enjoy not visiting you again. Home made burgers rule!
